2652 - I'm thankful for Twitch's video-on-demand (specifically so that I could watch the NES Big 20 that I've been watching speedrunners practice for a month now). #gratitude#speedrunning#Retrogaming
There's a case of cheating in a blindfold speed run in #Monsterhunter of a specific enemy.
Twitch Streamer "Queen Pwnzalot" has pretended to kill "Alatreon" while blindfolded twice now and cheated both times. But the speed running community is up to her tricks.
Here are the videos by Karl Jobst for the first one and the second one
CamyJared just set the world record on Guitar Hero's Through the Fire And Flames, getting a perfect score on 180% speed.
My favorite thing about speedrun record videos is watching the live chat go more and more ballistic as the record gets closer and more people start to believe it's about to be broken.
Let's not forget Zero Master's incredible achievement this year. The first person who beat E1M8 on UV Max, truly 100%-ing the level. In the 30 years of existent of the game.
If you wonder why this is a big achievement, check out this video for the detailed explanation:
Karl Jobst just released a new video about a huge milestone in the 100% category in Doom. 📼
There was a level were not all enemies could be defeated, but this barrier is broken now. Very good explanation of the background and the used strats. 👌
In Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition on Mega Drive, the final level sees you perilously driving a raft down a mountainside of waterfalls. Of course, the TAS approach is to simply jettison yourself off the mountain at the first opportunity
In RoboCop (NES), you have a limited ability to block enemy attacks. TASes use this mechanic with frame-perfect accuracy, allowing RoboCop to literally walk past 95% of the in-game enemies. My man just going for a stroll while everything in a 5 mi radius is trying to attack him lmao
In Streets of Rage, there's a entire level where you fight bad guys on an elevator. In TASes of the game, the fastest way to beat this level is to simply toss everyone off the side of the elevator, which leads to some unintentional comedy
Man, 2.5h of gaming time and I breezed through the castle in #ResidentEvil 4 Remake. I finished the fight against Salazar just in time and I'm heading for the island. I'm so low on everything, you wouldn't believe it...😬
But what really got me was the fight against Salazar's right hand. I was so certain that they would be dead after I emptied all the liquid nitrogen on them, but they just got back up. That's what I get for playing on hardcore, I guess. 😅 #ShareYourGames
I'm having loads of fun, even though I still remember everything. The first playthrough pulls you along, because crazy shit keeps happening and now it's still fun, even if you know what's coming.
This mirrors my thoughts, as I immediately hopped into a second playthrough as well. I think this is a really good indicator that the folks at Capcom laid down a great foundation for a gaming experience. Hopefully one day, their movies will live up to the experiences their games have created...
This makes repeat playthroughs much more appealing. Playing an 18h game multiple times in a row sounds insane, but 8-9h? Why the hell not? 😁
Totally agreed, and this is how I ended up casually #speedrunning for fun. There are some really interesting and clever built-in options that the developers left in, which made me appreciate the work put into the game even further.
I can't think if anything I don't like.
LOVE THIS!
I'm even enjoying the new costumes I chose, which will rarely interest me in other games.
Cheers, I also really enjoyed the costumes in this game as well. In my second playthrough I ended up trying the Casual Leon/Romantic Ashley sets. It would have been neat to see an RE2R Leon, or even the classic RE2 version like the classic RE4 had.
oh. And hardcore mode does have a few surprises. Even though my arsenal is almost fully upgraded, I'm starting to get my ass kicked on a regular basis now. 😬
This is relatable 😁 though I enjoyed that higher difficulties still posed a challenge despite bringing our upgraded weapons. I also took the time to experiment with my loadouts much more as well, which really added to the replayability.
I appreciate the updates! It's fun for me to live vicariously through others like this. Did you mess around with RE4R's Mercenaries yet?
2 Days ago Mario Bros. speedrunner Niftski set a new world record with a time of 4:54.631. 🏆
The previous world record - also set by Niftski - stood for over a year at 4:54.798, and while the new run represents only a .167 second improvement, it's actually a massive milestone for the whole Mario speedrunning community. ⏱️
He is only 22 frames away now from literal perfection.
Helping a friend here: Does anyone know of a good video/audio capture that will work with modern computers (Windows 10/11, OSX) that can accept older #composite video inputs from a #NES? This might even involve something like a RCA to #HDMI upscaler/converter into a capture device that uses HDMI.
Any guidance or boosts for visibility highly appreciated!
Rewatching the TAS of "The Mask" that I posted recently, I noticed that an entire level was skipped (left gif) by using the bicycle-horn-thingy that appears in the film (gif). How is this possible??
Thankfully, someone answered it for us! According to the commenter below, apparently using the horn extends your hitbox, and the exit to the level is immediately on the other side of the level start; thus, using the horn extends your hitbox over the level exit, allowing you to complete it instantaneously!
I always love neat skips like that in speedrunning lol, especially if they're kinda silly, as in this case :)
A new Tool-Assisted Speedrun of Sonic 3 and Knuckles (Knuckles playthrough) dropped 2 weeks ago, and it has one of the most mind-bending moments I've ever seen in a TAS. All I can say is that a "Tails jumpscare" is involved lmao
I love it when Tool-Assisted Speedruns do creative stuff like this during unskippable sections in games. It's like the speedrunner is winking at you and saying "check THIS out ;)" lol
Creator of speedrun documentaries summoning salt released a new video. ▶️
It's about a overwhelming wr run of Ninja Gaiden 2 runner jimmypoopins and the effort of the community to beat his time. ⏱️
44 entertaining minutes to fill a part of your sunday. 👌
OC After 2 years of work, I made an FPS where if you stop moving, you lose! - STOP DEAD (www.youtube.com)
Hey all, I hope you will forgive me this small bit of self-promo....
