Just finished new #Who Ep 1, #SpaceBabies, on #BBC. Oh dear. Twas less Timey Wimey, more samey samey. I was decidedly underwhelmed, sadly. Now, to do Ep2, or not? 🤔 🤷♀️
Okay, this has to be an #AprilFools thing. I get that some tenures of #TheDoctor are short, but they can't bring back another old face every other Doctor.
Finished the first season of the Jodie Whittaker incarnation of #DoctoWho tonight.
I watched the first few way back when in 2018 when they debuted, but burned out on it quickly. I blamed it on the writing and the change in show-runner, because I really did like Whittaker in the role. And then I just got busy and never went back.
I do want to watch the recent specials and check out the new season, so I figured it was time to catch up. And I've been pleasantly surprised—I really enjoyed it.
I had forgotten more than I realized; I honestly can't see what I disliked in the first place (maybe contrast? Steven Moffat's last season had been one of my favorites). And I'd forgotten why I like Whittaker so much in the role in the bit I did see (it was because she OWNED it from the first moment she appears; SHE IS THE GODDAMN DOCTOR).
I will say her first holiday special was one of my favorite “Oh, it's the You-Know-Who’s again” reveals they had done in a while.
Tom Baker may not love everything about Doctor Who, he certainly knows how to BE The Doctor.
His cane is based on his sonic screwdriver - well, one of them - during his time on the show. Love the whole get up!
I wanna wander around a nursing home looking like this muttering about my TARDIS suddenly deciding to fix it's own chameleon circuit and now I can't find it 😂
#Neurologist Ibrahim Imam reads lots of books about #medicine, esp. the #brain, and reviews them on #TheDoctor'sBookshelf. He wrote a wonderful review of my #memoir, #FindingTheRightWords & named it one "the most incredibly moving patient memoirs about the brain." Turns out the review was one of the most read of 2023. Below are links to the original review, to the list of #memoirs, & to 2023's most-read reviews.
#TheDoctor being an #anarchist: #FourthDoctor is accosted by soldiers in the 15th century who demanded he produce documents. He puts his half eaten orange on the sword pointed at him, reaches into his pocket to pull out a noisemaker, scares the horses so he can hijack one of them, but not before taking his orange back.9
Interesting that before there were cell phones or 911 (or 999) and even before everyone had telephones the British invented the police all box which is still useful for traversing time and space. #TheDoctor
As "Doctor Who" turns 60, it's time to pose that perennial question: Who is the best Doctor of them all? The BBC asked five fans to make their arguments. But which of this quintet do you think is the greatest? Tell us in the comments if your pick isn't on the list (we're fans of Christopher Eccleston).
@jann Whilst i don't dispute your statement, i just wanna give Highly Honourable Mentions to two other Pommy #ScFi shows, albeit outright comedies, that i also adore:
"The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views." - #TomBaker as #DoctorWho
"Never be cruel, never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears! Hate is always foolish, and love is always wise.
Always try to be nice and never fail to be kind. You mustn't tell anyone your name. No one would understand it anyway... Except children. Children can hear it.
