Installed #Waydroid on my #Fedora Linux PC today. Took a while until I understood how to add some ARM emulation support. Followed instructions for adding Google PlayStore, hooked up the Xbox 360 controller and fired up #AmongUs where the little one immediately started to show me the ropes.
Frustrated but not surprised at Peacock TV.
Linux users know that accessing from a browser gives you the attached "Something went wrong" screen.
I am able to access from my Android phone and Roku devices.
Last evening I installed KDE Neon with Plasma 6 on my Razer laptop, then ran Waydroid.
In that Android session Play Store says "This app won't work for your device".
Even tried loading an apk which ran, but gave me the same sad eyes error screen.
Ideas? #PeacockTV#Linux#Android#Waydroid
I'm not a fan of #windows but I am jealous of its ability to run #android apps. I'm surprised #linux doesn't have a compatibility layer similar to #wsl (at least that I know of).
All I know for now is #anbox which seems to be abandoned (?) and Waydroid which I can't use yet becuase #wayland just doesn't work for me. Any ideas?
@AngryAnt when I switch to #wayland the first thing I notice is that everything is just really fast, huge difference. But then when I launch steam games, they start and just stop. When I try #waydroid it starts, but there is a lot of stutter in the mouse movement.
Some proprietary streaming apps such as Prime Video seem to work well on #Waydroid over #postmarketOS. There are still bugs with media playback clocks sometimes, but the streaming itself is flawless.
Seems to be the result of a cycle between no users and no applications. With Linux mobile being as stable as it is on some platforms, maybe Linux mobile applications utilizing NFC can kickstart NFC out of the cycle?
Does #Waydroid support NFC? Maybe that can be another avenue as well
#askfedi Hi, I haven't followed the progress for a while, which OSes are currently usable on #pinephone (basic call/SMS, terminal, GPS, not crashing too much)? Is #waydroid usable (in particular for #OSMAnd)? Thanks!
(I had also set live snowflakes falling down my screen, but had disabled it during a screenshare meeting yesterday and forgot to enable them for the screenshot 🙁 if you want to see it, let me know and I'll take another!)
#droidian on the #op6 gives me the long awaited feeling of a fully usable #linuxphone to travel.
e.g. having a working camera & gps and even a #waydroid helper to run android apps like wa or organicmaps which are currently not available on #linuxmobile
with a native working browser, xmpp and matrix clients its daily driveable (signal is still a showstopper)...
#BOOX uses a big number of #FOSS stuff in their #epaper tablets. I first thought it's just the #Linux#kernel which they don't release the source code. But I've realized they are using many more FOSS stuff. Like the #Android apps from #SimpleMobile which are not #copyleft but if they were, legally, BOOX had to free their source code, too. One might argue what is the difference when they don't release the source codes. The differences come up when BOOX is in a court. #GPL#free_software
I'm not tied to Android yet (#KaiOS is serving me well!) but I'm feeling the pressure for payments, cabs/bikes, and all the cool Android-based #OpenStreetMap contribution tools. The #Palma is tempting.

@Sentientted A good maps/navigation app is definitely missing. I wish OsmAnd could be ported. I hope that #Waydroid will eventually become the WINE for Android Apps. I have heard it works really well.
