This year I realized a long-time dream of compiling some of my favorite sketchbook drawings into a printed booklet. For the past four years, I've been working steadily on honing my skills in natural history and botanical illustration. I've tried to cultivate a style that feels authentic and expressive, without sacrificing scientific accuracy. I'm pretty pleased with where I'm at!
Here's a pine cone I picked up. It's a land of it's own (one on which I might go live to get away from humans for a bit). I'm always amazed at what you can find when you look at the most day-to-day items up close.
This toned cyanotype combines images of various plants with a ghostly image of my linocut ‘Kaleidoscope of butterflies.’ Kaleidoscope is such a great term of venery for a group of animals!
This is another print employing both turmeric and cyanotype, to image fern and Virginia Creeper, with quite different results from the last. It shows the range of effects and elements of the unpredictable here!
'Cluster of Blueberries with Leaves' is my latest botanical artwork created in soft pastels. I think it turned out well and will make some pretty greeting card designs. It will make some great décor prints as well.
