This morning, I overheard someone talking about the "violence" that takes place during an . & so now, you get a 🧵

Below is a wonderful chart that helps folks understand fetal development. There are times I want to have it painted on sandwich board, so I can wear it everywhere I go.

I've given birth to a full-term baby; had an abortion; suffered a miscarriage. The least violent of the 3 was most assuredly the abortion. +

Compared to labor & childbirth, it was a relaxing hand massage on a sunny spring morning w/ Enya playing softly in the bg. Anti-choicers looooove their dismembered fetus porn & they can't seem to stop themselves from pretending that words like MURDERED BABIES are in any way relevant to the conversation, but the truth of the matter is that less than 1.8% of abortions are performed in the 3rd trimester & that those are almost ALWAYS due to medical issues. done during the 1st trimester. I had mine when I was between 6-8 wks along. I was awake & aware during the entire procedure. The products of conception consisted of a cpl of fingers of pink liquid in a glass jar & a VERY small amount of goo. I could never have identified the embryo if I'd tried--it was about the size of a blueberry at the time.

My abortion wasn't violent.

It wasn't painful. Certainly not to the embryo--it didn't yet have a brain & was nowhere near far enuff along in its +

development to process pain. I experienced a little discomfort. I spent the rest of the day on the sofa watching movies & went back to work the next morning. That's what most abortions are like. No babies are being killed or murdered or dismembered. Most abortions prevent zygotes & embryos from developing into fetuses. Abortions & miscarriages are the ONLY alternatives to preg & childbirth, & most of them are not at all violent. My abortion was much less violent than a root canal. +

You know what's violent? CHILDBIRTH IS VIOLENT.

& I'm happy to discuss the challenges & risks of pregnancy & childbirth if you like. Because there are many. Abortion? Very few. It's 14 times safer than childbirth. So. The next time some forced birther comes at you w/ their hysterical BS, throw some facts at them. +

@courtcan So much truth. I’m 62 yrs old & still dealing w/ health issues caused directly & exclusively by pregnancy & 36 hrs of labor & delivery of a 10+ lb baby. I adore my son, but he almost killed me, & that’s just reality.

This morning, I dreamed about Tibby, my sweet baby dawg (or as Mr. Boots called him, our stinky little weasel), & when I woke up, I could feel him curled up against my back. I reached over to pet him, & I remembered he's gone. He's been gone for almost 4 yrs, but I still miss him every single day. +

His official name was Terrible Tyrant Tiberius--he's the only pure-bred dog I've ever had, & that was the name on his AKC papers--but we always called him Tibby or Mr. Tibbs. He only weighed 5 lbs, but in his head, he was fearsomely enormous. My all-time favorite Tibby anecdote happened at the doggy daycare he used to visit 1 day a wk. When I was dropping him off 1 morning, 1 of the employees ran up to me waving a small long-handled fishnet--she wanted me to know that bc Tibby always somehow +
