This is the fundamental problem with the #SFMTA. They design streets with the expectation that there will be traffic enforcement, when in fact #SFPD doesn’t do any. Traffic safety needs to be self-enforcing, i.e., the designs need to incorporate physical barriers such that it’s impossible for drivers to do the wrong thing.
Congratulations, #SanFrancisco, on destroying one of the few silver linings of the pandemic. I know of four restaurants that have already gotten rid of their parklets due to the upcoming draconian regulations.
@scott@BruceHalperin If we had wider sidewalks there wouldn't be a scarcity of space requiring competition between different uses. We could have walking and wheelchair access and sidewalk cafes and public benches, all at once! If only there was a ten foot wide strip next to every sidewalk that could be easily converted into usable space...
