This week on , the weekly monster movie watch party, we've got STRANGER FROM VENUS (1954)! It's apparently so similar to The Day the Earth Stood Still that it wasn't released in the US until years later for fear of legal action. Fun!

The flick's not available on Archive.org, but it's on Tubi and the Extremely Easy To Download From, Wink Wink YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASAPL92HuhU

We start at 9pm eastern on Sundays! Hope to see you there :D

Shower thoughts from Son of Godzilla (1967):

-Why did the UN parachute drop a reporter into their secret weapons-testing black site?

-Why does the UN have a secret weapons-testing black site???

-WHY IS IT ON MONSTER ISLAND

trixter,
@trixter@retro.pizza avatar

@CactuarJoe Look, if you've got a secret weapons-testing black site on Monster Island, you're gonna want to go in by parachute drop.

Every time I see someone talk about an electric bike I'm like, "Oo, I want one. They've got to have come down in price, right?"

But no, of course not.

trixter,
@trixter@retro.pizza avatar

@CactuarJoe One of my friends bought one and I talked him into getting a fireproof charging bag, which is an actual thing you can get.

(I love Doctor Kiss.)

@trixter @CactuarJoe I do note that there are conversion kits. They can be torque or RPM keyed, and I cannot recommend torque keying more strongly, even if it does cost a bit more because it requires changing the pedal hub too.

I haven't used one but I've eyed them, we still have a couple of old bikes we don't use that make me go, like, "full cargo conversion? full cargo conversion?"

Though mostly light-hearted, has been known to delve into true horror. This Sunday, your weekly monster movie watch party will be featuring just such a film.

SON OF GODZILLA (1967), featuring perhaps the single most terrifying creature ever put to foam rubber; Minilla.

Against all reason and good taste, this film is still available on Tubi, or you can download from Archive.org: https://archive.org/details/son-of-godzilla

There's also a subbed version: https://archive.org/details/Godzilla-Showa-Era/08.+Son+of+Godzilla+(1967).mp4

Bought a new fan because it is entirely too hot to be living with an underachieving air mover.

CactuarJoe,

The good news about the fan: Wow, that's really strong.

The bad news: Wow, that's strong enough that the fan pushes itself over

I know it's been a thing for a couple of games now, but it still weirds me out seeing Eeveeloutions in the wild. Like, why is there a Jolteon staring at me right now? Who gave this thing a Thunder Stone? Was it a Magnemite? I bet it was a Magnemite, those things are evil.

trixter,

@CactuarJoe WHERE DID THAT SYLVEON COME FROM

CactuarJoe,

@trixter There are many possible answers to that and I like none of them.

The flick's free with commercials on Tubi, or you can download in advance from Archive.org right over here: https://archive.org/details/pit-and-the-pendulum

Folks, this week on , the weekly monster movie watch party, we've got an HG Wells classic. Yes it's JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (1977), which actually looks like a decent production. The costumes look solid and the MUTTONCHOPS definitely look period-accurate. Good god.

Anyway, come join us this Sunday at 9pm eastern! If you'd like to download the movie in advance, it's up on Archive.org over here: https://archive.org/details/1977.-the-fabulous-journey-to-the-center-of-the-earth

Folks, it is an hour until , the weekly monster movie watch party.

This week we're watching KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS (1977), which features William Shatner and about 5,000 spiders. If either of those things is a problem for you, I heartily recommend filtering this hashtag, which can be done in your Preferences.

If you'd like to join in, you can find the movie on Tubi and Archive.org: https://archive.org/details/KingdomOfSpiders

We start at 9pm Eastern!
