Just realized my first post didn't include the second page when viewed on lemmy

I posted through mastodon since uploading images to lemmy from mobile has become difficult or impossible and didn't realize the second image wouldn't show on the lemmy UI despite being there in the mastodon post

My current home screen is inspired by the UI design featured in cowboy bebop :)

it's always evolving so parts are unfinished, but a lot of the features are designed to help me manage my circadian rhythm sleep disorder

Not sure how it'll look after compression, but I'm really proud of the design work that went into it, its pretty much all custom made with KWGT and KLWP

So. Three folks I follow are echoing pretty much the same sentiment I've been trying to express and are spending less time here.

I'll preface with a reminder that you may very well feel my opinions are bunk. I am a successful YouTuber, after all, with all the privileges that entails.

But here's the brass tacks: it's harder for me to be here comfortably than it was on the birdsite. And to be honest, I think Mastodon's always gonna be this way.

DAFilms + Taiwan International Documentary Festival are running a collaborative free week-long online screening of eight documentaries from Taiwan's Green Team (1986-1990) guerrilla media collective, which captured massive social movements + government violence throughout their active period. The one about successfully fighting off DuPont is next on my list.

I figured out my travel coffee! Turns out you can buy the same kind of filter Muji uses for their paper travel coffee bag, but empty. Nothing to wash except a mug and you can use anything to heat the water. Lighter than an aeropress, too—a lot of people suggested cool but v heavy rigs.

The key search phrase is apparently “hanging ear” and they look like this.

I've been listening in on the #FediForum today when I can and it was mentioned that the BBC is floating the idea of using more ActivityPub platforms beyond Mastodon.

@pixelfed was mentioned as a possible way to internally manage and share media that comes in from their teams. Awesome!

I feel like the main thing the Facebook Papers did was reveal how little non-tech people in government, policy, and journalism had previously understood about the stuff that was wildly obvious to people who worked on or paid close attention to any of the big social systems. Just a truly astonishing gap in understanding.

And of course gov officials and many journalists reacted in real horror and tech was like 🙄 Okay whatever but people don’t like chronological feeds.

I was a wild child, and I couldn't imagine a future where I wasn't a child who climbed rocks and slept in caves. At school, a sentence, a word, or a comma was enough to shoot me to some remote place, a landscape to explore, full of life and details. I rarely finished reading their books, and then there would be a test I couldn't complete. They never asked me about those second places, about all the places I escaped to. 20 years have passed, and I'm still there.

Like so many other climate-change-fueled phenomena, the Hawai'i wildfires are horrifying in their immediate reality + terrifying in what they suggest about our futures. This from 2021 is the best explainer I've found about what's made the islands so susceptible to devastating fires.

(Tl;dr: It's not just climate change, it's also introduced grasses and other ecological meddling.)
