I talk to people from the UK pretty regularly, I watch a lot of BBC programming, I read a lot of books by authors from the UK, but sometimes they will suddenly use a word I've never heard in my life, and I'm beginning to think they are pranking us, and every other person from the UK is in on the joke, and just validates whatever the other person says!

The defenders of pure English would have a hard time reading Beowulf let alone something written in the 1920's or 1950's.

My primary died in the middle of a big multi-print session. Had it all apart yesterday to see the remedial work I did on the hot end last year isn't cutting it anymore.

Part I need is a new PTFE heatsink throat liner, but it's an OD of about 3.5 - 3.8mm (depending on which calipers I believe) which doesn't seem to be sold anywhere. 3mm is prob too small and 4mm (of which I have plenty) is too big.

Ordered some 3mm overnight anyway. Will try it today.

@ottaross I bought some nozzles, filament dryer and some replacement Bowden tube some months back. They are pretty close to me (There is also Nita beer, purple cow and the buyapi shop on Colonnade. ;)

Dianora,

@ottaross They are very close so very handy for me! I was surprised to find them then find out they were so close. I prefer shopping local and it's handy for emergencies.

@ottaross Ditto on the premium! I looked at a few spools myself but I was fairly well stocked. It's nice to be able to see a spool up close before buying! Let me know how the spool works.

happy to say, Richard Dawkins has me blocked on Xitter because, during his Hijabi concern-trolling days, i not only dared to question his knowledge of Islamic traditions, but called him a bad atheist for not even knowing the basics of Christianity history, doctrine & theology.

i regret nothing.

    Re-reading this BBC article today.
    https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20240207-the-one-simple-change-that-will-improve-your-media-diet-in-2024

It's a good read... this quote stood out for me.

"The same 2020 Pew poll found that those US respondents who used social media the most, for example, were the least likely to correctly answer questions about topics in the news, like the Covid-19 pandemic and Donald Trump's impeachment. Only 17% of those who primarily got their news from social media had "high political knowledge", versus 45% who got their news from a news website or app.

Not only were the social media users less likely to know what was going on in the world – but they were more likely to have heard false, or unproven, claims and conspiracy theories. And they expressed less concern about these claims than other cohorts."

So what can be done about this?

Pierre Poilievre's 'Axe the Tax' rally draws thousands of supporters to Toronto Congress Centre

Explaining why he decided to spend his Sunday afternoon at a Conservative rally against the carbon tax, Graham Humphries expressed a common sentiment among those in attendance.

    “Trudeau sucks, obviously.”

He couldn’t specify Trudeau’s policy failings.

Poilievre is doing nothing but campaigning, while being paid by us, long before the next election.
