Finished The Colour of Magic and swiftly moving on to book 2: The Light Fantastic.

This is one the quickest I've read any book (the last time being, I believe, the same book). I'm not usually a big reader, or a quick one, but these books seem to be just right for me.

Oooohkay. There's a thing in Germany called Kinderturnen. It's like baby gymnastics, I suppose. Often like an obstacle course.

Anyway, one boy is chasing another using a rope like a whip. The younger, smaller boy is crying out. I give chase and get the bigger boy to stop whipping him.

He's like "it's my brother?" and I'm like "so? Doing that hurts!" then, their father tells me again that they're brothers, and it's up to him to deal with them, not me. I'm like, ok.

Dad is a douche. No kid should be whipping the other. There's boisterous play, then there's bullying. Well done you for standing up for the little kid, and well done for not going off on the dad (I'm not sure I couldn't).

I think he was reacting to being found out. I mean, sure: you're not that kid's parent, so you shouldn't be "telling them off", but at the same time, if dad was doing their job, you shouldn't have to be "telling them off". 😂

If I'd been found to have dropped the ball, I would have been rather embarrassed. But, we don't know that person's situation, so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Younger kid rescued, the older kid chastised a little and all is well.

Been re-reading The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett and it's such a good book, and so well written! I feel like I'm watching it as I read, the mark of a truly great author.

I'd love to see a film/show of it! Who would you pick as Rincewind? My mind went to a young Eric Idle, but maybe David Tennant would be a good substitute.

Does anyone have a password manager recommendation that's user-friendly for less technical users? We switched to 1Password last year and it has honestly been a nightmare for my wife

I like Bitwarden. I found it very easy to use and managed to import all my stuff from Lastpass, which had everything imported from 1Password.

You know how people do something slightly embarrassing in the coffee shop (or wherever) and then they say "now I can never go back there"?

I have worked in plenty of customer service jobs and let me reassure you that I never remembered anyone for any reason.

"My usual"? I have no idea who you are, sorry.

"I was just here an hour ago"? Nice for you, I did not retain that information.

"I've been waiting for my food for ages"? Hmm, it is possible that I was bad at this.

I work for a trust that employs 18000+ people. I probably serve about a third of them. We get people coming into the office every day. The amount of times someone walks in and smiles at us, gets no response, so adds "I'm here to pick up my stuff"

Like we're meant to know who the hell you are?! When we ask for a ticket number, they seem rather lost. "why would you need a ticket number?"

"Because I've got 16 computers, 5 headsets, 2 mice and bloody partridge in a pear tree!" I want to say

We got our first 29°C today, and being sat next to the window I felt the blackout curtain just slowly radiate off heat onto my face 🥵

It's a bit drug-den vibes but I hear foil in the windows can help reflect away some of that heat? 👀

'scuse me for adding my two coppers worth, but if it's anything like the privacy stuff we had on our front window, it's vinyl and sticks to the window with static. Comes off in one movement leaving 0 residue (nothing is used to stick it there, just static electricity and magic).

Found this on aliexpress...I know it's incredibly likely to be a scam, you can literally see the change in grain of the card around the text when you switch between different filetypes, but...I'm just curious. The reviews are mostly confused saying it's authentic, but with the occasional one saying that it gives errors around filesize...hmmmmm. I think you know what I'm thinking.

But even if it's fake...I kinda want it. Just for the sake of curiousity.

    Helped my ex-mother-in-law with her application for a new flat today.
    It wasn't a bad system, but when we tried it on her iPad, the system showed an empty browser page. On a hunch, I got my laptop out and sure enough, it was an AI chatbot. We went through the questions and got all the paperwork uploaded, but it wasn't easy. Had she been alone, she would have given up.

    Using a clever AI system for your business is fine, but don't forget accessibility for ALL users.

    The wall next to the desk where I usually sit at work feels a little blank.

    I'd like to hang a flag - and I'd like it to be in solidarity with disability because I'm getting ever further into accessibility work.

    Main question: Would it be OK, as a non-disabled, sighted person, to hang a disability pride flag?

    Will absolutely not be offended if someone says 'nope, not cool'.

    As of today, I am no longer subscribed to any streaming music platforms. I dropped Spotify last year, and today I dropped Tidal.

    I have an awesome and growing vinyl collection. I ripped all my CDs and have my entire digital music library on both my iPod and Plex.

    I'm content with this decision. In fact I'm EXCITED about it, because I'll be spending more time enjoying and loving the heaps of music I already own.

    As for discovery? Recommendations, Bandcamp, and good old fashioned music blogs.

    Well, after my rather fruitless weekend, I was up all night sobbing and generally feeling like crap. I've tried to do a bit of coding this morning, but my brain is just saying "no", so I'll leave it for the moment.

    On the up side, I will shortly no longer be on call, so I can relax. Just need to get through today (WFH). Gonna need coffee, stat!
