@wfpb Yes, you can still have yummy comfort food when you go , it just takes longer. I use this "cheese" sauce in a lot of recipes. This week, it will be used to make a wfpb-no oil version of Hamber Helper

Masked and ready for travel. ZERO other passengers masked in the airport. Some TSA masked, but several were coughing and sniffling.

I will take the mask off for sips of water, but rather than head to our crowded gate, we find an empty gate and sit 40 feet from the walkway and other people.

This is my 20th flight of the pandemic. To my knowledge, I've not gotten sick in an airport or plane. I got my one infection on a trip, but I think that was from the event at which I presented.

@augieray Since we are about to embark on our first plane trip in years, this is encouraging. I hope we aall stay healthy.

I'm backing off from Mastodon a bit: too many crumbs, not enough cake. I want to use time formerly spent on Mastodon to read books.

Still will post from time to time, but not so much time spent here.

ICareAboutTheWorld,
@ICareAboutTheWorld@mas.to avatar

@Leisureguy Would sure hate to lose you here. Do you add your favorites to lists? Then you can check in when you want and not miss anything. I also turn off boosts from some accounts that boost too many things I'm not interested in but still get to see their own toots.

A curve billed thrasher perched on a cholla cactus. They have such a beautiful song in the spring. I always look forward to it. They are spry and social. Such great neighbors.

I’ve just finished rereading The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I think it was the first of her novels that I read, many years ago now, and after reading others I thought it was due a revisit. I didn’t remember it well and I felt sure that at the time I may have missed some of the themes that run through it, or didn’t fully appreciate them at least. Kingsolver is an excellent storyteller & this is a fascinating & epic tale. Well worth reading (or rereading!).

@helenclayton I've never read a Barbara Kingsolver book I didn't like. Good recommendation. Loved it.

@helenclayton @miki_lou My last Kingsolver read was 'Flight Behavior' about monarch butterflies (and much more). It was a bit different but surprisingly delightful.

Fermented cayenne pepper sauce now complete..

It also has a few red jalapeños. I fermented it for 3 weeks but could have gone longer.

EllieK, (edited ) to Bread
@EllieK@mstdn.ca avatar

Okay, here's a challenge for the bakers on here:

I want to make a flat, crispy bread, with whole, cooked, possibly sprouted grains (wheat, rye, barley, buckwheat). I want as little flour as possible in the dough, just enough to hold it together. I have a strong rye sourdough.
The purpose is to have a crisp bread that would work well for a diabetic. Hence the whole grains. Also oil free, of course.
Any thoughts,

@wfpb

Have you tried papadams? They are crunchy and delicious. Here's a Wikipedia description. You can find a zillion good recipes online. 🤗 👨‍🍳

@EllieK These use milled whole grains like mung or garbanzo flour.

The extinct Capulin volcano is one of many volcanos and fissures in an 8000 square mile area of northeastern NM. The mouth shown here is a little over 400 ft. deep. The surrounding area is fascinating and moonscape-like. Well worth the !
