@Jgmeadows@mstdn.ca

Retired from IT, thank God! Into photography, writing, fountain pens and choral singing. Fighting and losing the eternal battle against typos. Ugly old married dude who is not looking to get laid. At the age where I get all the aches and pains, but none of the senior's discounts. I boost a lot. Avatar is a black and white photograph of an at best nondescript older guy. #Photography #Writing #BlackAndWhite #Toronto

Maga’s seem to worship Trump as a messiah; I’d be OK with that if their version of the Lord Trump’s Prayer began:

“Our father, who art in prison”

Perhaps an unpopular statement, but not everyone who owns a house in is rich. There are a good number of “house poor” people who while they may own a house, are living on a fixed income, are an elderly senior etc. and can’t maintain the property. I’ll bet there are ways to integrate the house poor into housing solutions (more multi-generational housing, downsizing on place, allowing city-subsidized micro-housing units in back yards etc.). 1/2

Jgmeadows,
@Jgmeadows@mstdn.ca avatar

My fear is that as housing pressures are very keenly felt by younger demographic cohorts, opportunistic politician will fan the flames of inter-generational resentment and conflict, and look for “solutions” that are basically thinly disguised acts vengeance, like punitive taxation for all homeowners, regardless of income. Will the goal be to tax the house poor out of their homes? There has got to be a better way. 2/2

This is the truth-what they failed to mention is that provincial governments are failing in these areas, not the feds.

Housing Crisis, Packed Hospitals and Food Lines: Even in Canada?

From Montreal to Vancouver, some residents are losing faith in a longstanding social safety net that is central to the country’s identity.

@Snowshadow @gemelliz The provincial model (especially for Conservatives):

  1. The provinces get to control policy and dole out the money, and take all the credit.
  2. Ottawa is reduced to funding transfers, and being the convenient scapegoat when provincial governments screw up.

The COVID crisis was the perfect example of this. Even the federal NDP was peddling this BS.

Ever get a typo that seems like it is trying to say something? I was trying to type “World War II” just now, and it came out “Word War II.” It seems to me that “Word War” is an apt description for social media these days.

    Why is the government prolonging the agony for so many people!
    This passed last year but they are dragging their heels again!!!

    "The Canada Disability Benefit Act became law last summer, and the government has been doing consultations on it for months."

    Excuses and more excuses!!!

    "The Liberal MPs say the measure is supported by all parties as well as a majority of Canadians, who want to see funding in the budget to implement it."

    @Snowshadow When it comes to Canadians who are vulnerable or needy for any reason, we have the Liberals who do the least possible and try to pretend they are doing the most possible, and the Cons who actively attack these groups but claim to want to do the most possible.

    Curious (like millions of others) what will happen with Trump today.

    Of course in the west, while marginalized people spend years in jail for petty crime and white men of power & influence often wriggle out of accountability, I wouldn't be surprised if the bond amount gets substantially cut and/or delayed, and/or he gets a shadowy investor to buy him and get him off the hook.

    Or maybe I'll be dead wrong and today will be the true beginning of the end for him. That would make my day.

    @Snowshadow @gemelliz Let me guess: mandatory shoe insurance for pedestrians and mandatory bike insurance for cyclists, to subsidize drivers. /s

    In the realm of possibility, I could see him making car insurance tax deductible; anything to get more drivers on the road.

    Jgmeadows,

    @Snowshadow @gemelliz I could also see him looking for a way to pit urban drivers against his suburban and rural base with different insurance rates.
