Life seems to involve a lot more plumbing than I expected.

It feels very strange having boxes full of stock ready made and stacked around me shoulder high. Very different to working with a few items at a time and producing on demand.

LewisWorkshop,
@LewisWorkshop@mastodon.online avatar

@philpem absolutely, yes - if you can hang on a couple of days, I'll be updating the etsy site. I don't have 20oz, but I do have 15oz.

It's not just new things I'm making for Maker's Central, I've got some old favourites coming back into stock. They'll also be coming to the etsy store next month, after I rejig everything. It's taking a while because there's only me and I'm easily distracted by minor things like food, sleeping, and having a 15 week old daughter 🥴.

They've restored communications to voyager 1. Meanwhile, I still can't get my bluetooth speaker to connect reliably in the workshop, the car keeps losing my seat and mirror position settings and won't report its charge status through the app, and the cooker exploded.

We’re now far enough along the adoption curve for that we’re seeing the collapse of the smoke and mirrors stage, as we enter the trough of disillusionment. https://gizmodo.com/amazon-reportedly-ditches-just-walk-out-grocery-stores-1851381116

If your door doesn't have a sign like this, do you even science, bro?!

Get it from my store: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1412779927/everything-will-kill-you-funny-metal

*once again, I stand here as a small business owner and ask you to boost my shenanigans so that I may afford food and shelter.

The projects that really engage me and I feel proud of never get any reaction online when I post about them. Yet stuff I post about that I didn't feel any special connection to seems to generate likes and boosts from other people.

I'm not doing stuff for the engagent, but it's disconcerting to feel like the opposite of a trend setter. I feel like the anti-maker... I tried to be a good example but instead I became a terrible warning.

I wish more companies had tech support like @beasts - problem resolved in minutes, clear explanation of what was broken, how to avoid the problem in the future, and info for follow-up. No scripts, no escalation, no call centre. So good.

A5 From where I'm scheduling this from if I shuffle a little to the right my very heavy Singer sewing machine would be the nearest and I think that could do some serious damage if it clocked them round the head - or even if I dropped it on their foot!

There's a new sign available from my store - It's all fun and games until the SCP fails.

It's a lean month, and I love luxuries like food and shelter - Boosts and reposting on other platforms is appreciated.

Here's today's press release for JAXA's SLIM lunar landing!

TL;DR:

Pinpoint site identification was crazily successful.

We were lowering into position, detecting boulders like a champ.

THEN ONE OF THE ENGINES DROPPED OFF.

(I kid you not)

(we don't know why yet)

(maybe space pirates)

But we still soft-landed on 1 engine.

(TAKE THAT SPACE PIRATES!)

but on our head.

Strangely, might not be a big deal once the Sun moves round to the other side of the spacecraft.

That's better... The first of three Fatmax organisers to fit under my counter. I've been meaning to make these for about 3 years but haven't gotten around to it. All 3 will cut out from a single full sheet of plywood.

Dear Evri,
Yes, we were in, but I'm so glad you didn't wake us up at 5:53 AM for this delivery, because I would have been very rude indeed to you.

But to be fair, I think you are lying!

Well, here's the big secret project we've been working on since last year - and the reason most of my posts have been dripping with stress and anxiety for the last 9 months. Say hello to the newest member of the family.

Good grief... There's people out there saying that if I own books by particular authors then they wouldn't feel "safe" around me. That's fine by me - I don't feel safe around people who can't separate information sources from intention.

Are people really this childish now? I'm the big bad meanie because I read widely? I've no time for this nonsense any more and I won't pander to it. Grow up. If a bit of paper on a stranger's shelf is a problem, the real bad in the world is going to break you.

You know what? Bugger woodworkers making things in giant workshops. I want to see an amateur from the arse end of urban decay. Cramped in a humid room with the smell of fungus. I want to see them trying to mark and cut a sheet of plywood with it balanced on the back of a chair at an angle, while a pallid energy saving light bulb sweats electric twilight into the room. I want to see the rage boil in their eyes as the pound shop screw driver bits shatter and strip the head for the third time.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a smallish (12"-24") vinyl cutter? Obviously not a Cricut, but what about a Silhouette, or Vevor, or Roland? Something else?

Anyone got anything they're looking to sell?

There's very little time left to get your signs delivered in time for Christmas - order from http://Lewiswork.etsy.com ASAP if you're based in the UK. International fans - Sorry, it's already too late.

*Boosts appreciated to spread the word.

E: Ok I think I got a few options now, thanks!

I have a pressure pump that is controlled via WiFi to water my plants at specific times.
That works well but my issue is that I get siphoning for some low standing plants.
I can't find something that would essentially only allow high pressure to flow and stop at low pressure. This could be as simple as a backflow valve with a stronger spring but it doesn't seem to be a thing?
Electric solution also ok but needs to be pressure controlled.

LewisWorkshop,
@LewisWorkshop@mastodon.online avatar

@timonsku a quick look and I found https://www.futuregarden.co.uk/anti-syphon-valve which is available with barbed hose fittings. It's the sort of thing that gets used in hydroponics and aquaponics quite frequently, so maybe those types of supplier will be good to look at. An alternative would be a peristaltic pump, or a servo actuated valve that only opens when the pump is on.
