I am so tired of all the people with no experience of government who make sweeping vague statements about what "must be done" to stop climate disruption, as if a government in a democracy is able to act like a dictatorship.
Working to obtain consensus, showing leadership, offering incentives - that's about the limit of what a democracy can do. The people themselves have to make the necessary changes to their lifestyles.

Stern email from a copyright firm, claiming a photo in a 2009 blog post of mine is stolen from one of their clients.

I am 99.9% sure it is not (I took all the photos of the thing in question), but can I find EXIF data in those old files to prove it…? 🤔

There’s a really interesting thing that I think happens when you aren’t using a service or are looking at it from a distance. Your thoughts on it become very binary. All the nuance is lost.

If you aren’t on Bluesky, you might just turn it down because it goes against something you support. If you aren’t on Twitter, you might not understand that people have professional reasons to be there.

@ernie The thing is, all those people using FB in an innocent way, are still complicit in all the bad things Meta does as a company, by using that platform.
FB lives off of selling the data that is generated by all those 'innocent' people and all their contacts.

@ernie The problem with getting them to go "somewhere else" is that they don't even know where they are. I've met so many people who only use their phones for email and FB, and literally are not aware they are using the internet. FB comes pre-installed on most devices, which is part of the problem. Older people think it's just something on their phone, they don't realise how surveilled they are when they use it.

This statement from Feinstein’s office immediately contradicts itself. First it says that her absence has caused “no slowdown” in the confirmation of nominees. Then it notes that Republicans continue to block some nominees from moving forward and that they can move forward when (i.e. “if”) she returns.

Operation camera.

My son found a camera when he was Magnet fishing on the Zaanse schans a year ago. Then I got sick and couldn´t do anything with this camera.

Its SD card contains photo's and video's of an Asian girl/woman who is doing a world tour.

She speaks Mandarin Chinese. And in the video she is on Marakech Airport. Thanks for the translations.

The next step is to find her.

@JamesGleick @si2mev I understand your concern, but I must say that in my 14 years on Twitter I saw many cameras returned to extremely grateful people because someone who knew them saw a photo from the device in a tweet.
Of course, if you are in hiding for any reason this can be compromising, but in that situation perhaps one shouldn't be doing selfies in any case.

@tcely It's not either/or. The time for nuclear is passed. It was a giant 20th century mistake, not to be repeated again.
