Today I have been reading about Collapse OS. http://collapseos.org - My initial thoughts are vaguely a mix of “OMG IT’S FULL OF STARS!” and realising I’ve probably been involuntarily avoiding thinking about the reasons for its existence, and need to assess this … it probably is inevitable, but imminent?

More spare hardware looking for a new owner.

2nd spare tower PC (16GB Ram, Intel i5-4670 CPU @ 3.4GHz, 6GB SATA interfaces etc.) with some spinning rust disks.

I tried this using an SSD, and with that it's actually reasonably fast, so someone can do £25 expenditure and have a meaningfully working machine...

@neil @mw1cgg Depends on the average first buyer's location. London & South attracts younger people because there's more work compared to the North, and that's one thing that needs fixing.

@neil @mw1cgg Table 3 is interesting indeed - but as press releases go, it's not clear if it's the average is calculated across the visible table which would be daft, or there's somewhere a hidden column for the % of people buying in each region and the average across that.

If there are a million people in London trading for 500k per flat (and that's a reasonable price) and 1000 in NI for £150k per flat, the average wouldn't be £325k.

Our own experience (2022) in the South East + Greater London showed the prices were mainly true. A small flat outside London was around £300k, and a small house would be near 425-500k It's gone down slightly in late 2022 after the rates went up.

Larger (4-room) houses were around 600-700k.

For the price we paid for our smallish terrace house we could have got a massive palace in Newcastle.. :(

Radio 4 and the World Service still put out great documentary content. I also mirror them using get_iplayer, although more and more is now 'no longer available and can be found on Sounds app'. Yech, because my listening pattern doesn't match the website availability pattern.
