    @feditips Protip: Signing up on mastodon.social is a way to make your local discovery feed, which is something that you should want to be reading, into a mess of the stupidest advertising posts in the world, endless bots posting people's playlists, flights, weather, trains, and other useless things, with so much Thai, Vietnamese and German posting that you'll make filter lists of the most popular words in those languages just to reduce the vast noise to tiny signal ratio.

    TBH, stuff like this is why I always default to, sorry, aggregator sites like e621 etc. There's simply too many sites, artists often favor shitty platforms for art (twitter is terrible for it), artists rarely tag their stuff even on platforms that support it (Pixiv), you can't use blacklists without paying (pixiv...) etc etc.

    At some point...you just gotta protect the art from the art sites, and sometimes, from the artists. I'm a pretty strict archivist.

    @SirTapTap Oh, I am not saying la belle province is above the fash or getting really weird; we got around and fine businesses for not speaking the approved language around here and have secularism laws that only target brown people religions. We're not great.

    It's just that I didn't ever expect it to take the form of religion here. It's the most atheist place in the Americas by far.

    Non-profit link aggregators like and private citizens using social media like aren't subject to the content-stealing fees that Meta and Google will now have to pay when presenting news site links and stories.

    Advertising is already an unhealthy information distortion and the modern, anticompetitive ad markets run by Google and Meta are toxic.

    Good riddance.

    The Greece boat disaster is one of the thousands of good examples of why "injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere" even from a cold, practical view.

    Because when conditions in foreign countries get bad enough, people are willing to go through anything to get out. Most people on that boat were probably fully aware of the risks.
