They are paving the way to their own atrocities.

This serves them well, as they will no longer have to undertake clandestine operations with this precedent.

The despots and those aspiring to become one in places like the USA, UK, Pakistan, India, France, various African states (with some notable and noble exceptions), various SE Asian countries, and those who seek to benefit from them (as most of the above are from one another), are secretly saying that the massacre of innocent people, the siege, the displacement, the raizing of entire districts, the refusal to give access to food, water, medicine and shelter etc etc is a price they are willing to see Palestinians pay.

“Comfortable retirement“? The way things are going, you’re going to need more than this. Not having a mortgage hanging over you in retirement is essential. But your house is going to require maintenance. Trades are getting seriously more expensive every year. Also rates, land tax, insurance. Also electricity, water, health care. Forget about overseas holidays. Forever. Death is a holiday. Good luck.

And what of the majority of people who don't have a mortgage and are at the whim of 'the market' and greedy property investors?
I've moved 15 times in the last 24 years. Every time because the property I was renting was sold and we were turfed out or the rent increase was unaffordable.
The last one was 25% after it had been increased by 15% a year prior.
As a sole parent w 2 dependent kids for a long time, working in senior positions in the charity sector, I never earned enough to save for more than school essentials. Today in my mid 60ies I earn as much as I did in 2020.
4 weeks, maybe 5 from being totally broke. My super has enough to pay rent for a year, if I get old enough to claim it.
And then what?
I don't own a car.
I don't travel.
I dont eat out.
I dont see movies in the cinema.
I don't subscribe to streaming services and I turn all appliances other than the fridge off overnight and when I go to work.
As a migrant with my extended family on the other side of the planet with no riches either, this is what it is.
Make no mistake, this is what the system is designed to create, and those with a mortgage are the lucky ones. Even if maintenance is killing them. They can sell and downsize.
I live in 35 square meters including bathroom and kitchen bench. My unit has 2 doors. I'd be happy to live here,but at some stage I won't be able to pay rent here. It is currently 56% of my post tax pay.

They're everywhere thanks to oligarchs and their social media tools.
Like flat earthearthers, they are immune to reason and the most primitive understanding of microbiology is beyond their grasp.
In a world of fake news and conspiratorial messaging, they will eventually win.
And in a way that's a deserving ending for humans - acknowledging that lots of innocent and vulnerable people will perish.
But that's the price we/they have been paying for millennia.
War and oppression always decimated the innocent. This war is fought on instagram and we've lost it.

There are lots of nice people in the USA.
I have family there.
They're nice.
But the states their governments and large VERY LARGE sways of citizen are fake religious extremists carrying guns, vontrolling women, imprisoning vulnerable people, banning books, hating queers, lynching black people, killing children, allowing child marriage and rape, the list goes on.
The same things happen in ...
wait, none of this happens in such a concerted and combined way anywhere else.
If they were Arabs, the US, UK, AUS would have invaded them, making up some shite false reason.

On the bus trip I saw something so funny, and I have seen it so many times ... Outside the main entrance of the University of Sydney I see parents taking photos all the time ... Fine nice no issue, but that the parent stands in the middle of the bus lane to take the photo, and expects the buses to stop for them

One of the reasons I moved to the antipodes. I'm not German, but germanic.
It turned out that the weather north of the Alps had a more significant impact on my mental health than I realised.
The price to pay?
Sweltering summer heat in Sydney with no air con (my choice).
6.30pm now and still 32° (and this is pretty normal), humidity 65% isn't so bad. Apparently it's the dew point that determines whether you're sweating like a pig or like some other less perspired animal (I have no idea where that idiom came from and whether pigs sweat)(dogs don't, hence the tongue out panting).
Anyway, I digress.
Sending you some sunshine to lighten up your early morning and late arvo. 🌞
