Caught these red tulips behind city hall in Coralville, Iowa.

It's nice to catch spring flowers in the shade. The reds, oranges, and yellows really pop.

Got lots of gardening to do this week between searching for more spring wildflowers. So will likely be on Mastodon sporadically.

If you're able and weather permitting, may I suggest you take some time to get outside or even sit next to an open window for a bit. Best mood elevator ever👍

The first wildflower I've come across on . It's the same species an the one I found first about this time last year, liverwort (Hepatica americana or Anemone hepatica seems likely). I don't know if it has opened yet or not but I'm gonna head back today to take a look.

Closeup photograph of a row of three liverwort flowers (Hepatica americana or Anemone hepatica seems likely). The flower in the center is in focus while the flowers in the foreground and the background are out of focus. The species of Anemone has brown-purple, lobed leaves on long stem. Its flowers top long, purple stems and are composed of purple-green sepals that support six pale, purple-pink petals radiating from a center with stamens and pistil. This plants is likely still in the process of blooming with the petals still mostly closed.

Haven't seen a non-mallard/Canada goose waterbird in the pond B4 but I'm sure there's probably been some. Luckily I encountered one once & when this one dived I was like, "That ain't no duck". Stalked it the next day for an hour or so & was finally able to sneak up on it while it dove.

No others. It just hung out w/ the geese/ducks. Such a cutie!

Purchased my false African violet (Streptocarpus saxorum seems likely) 3yrs ago. The vendor sent it as a cute little box topiary. Unfortunately, that shape led it to hollow out. Tried to rework/reshape that plant for 2yrs before deciding to start from scratch with some clippings since it's easy to grow that way. Finally got it into the less dense, bushy shape with cascading flowers that I prefer 👍.

Closeup photograph of false African violet (likely Streptocarpus saxorum) flowers attached to the same slender stem. False African violets have small green leaves covered in fine hairs. The flowers are attached to the main plant via a long, thin, drooping stems that cascade around the plant. The flowers are pale purple and tubular with a open face made up of fused, scalloped petals. The interior of the is white and has purple spots on the portion that is visible just outside the tube-like structure.

One of my white tulips is about to bloom and it looks like it may have been visited by a jumping spider🕷️ (I'm not an arachnologist so I could be mistaken).

My first tulip opened up yesterday. Yeah😃! It was closed this morning due to the colder temps. This is the first time I've planted tulips and last fall decided to go with a simple palette of pink, pastel yellow, and white.

The wonderful thing about birding is that you're constantly learning new info about different species. For example, I didn't realize that female red-bellied woodpeckers don't have red on the top of their heads. As far as I know this may be the first photograph I've taken of a female. Before I looked it up, I assumed it was a molting male or perhaps an unfortunate sufferer of male pattern baldness 😉.
