Sexy time among the moss along #ClearCreekTrail. I noticed one of the capsules looks like a gulper eel (#2 is a closer crop on #1). I'm not very familiar with mosses. Is that what the capsule typically looks like before/after it releases its spores?

The first wildflower I've come across on #ClearCreekTrail. It's the same species an the one I found first about this time last year, liverwort (Hepatica americana or Anemone hepatica seems likely). I don't know if it has opened yet or not but I'm gonna head back today to take a look.

Lot's of robins on #ClearCreekTrail the other day. Seems like they are earlier this year but because of the mild winter many likely stayed over too. Tons of females or immature males. I really love to see the eye color in this photo. You have to get the right angle to see that beautiful brown.

Usually do most of my photography during the day but heard there were some spots on #ClearCreekTrail where owls hang out. Never had a chance to photograph an owl so headed out before sunset to see what I could find. No owls but I got a chance to explore some low light settings.
Here's a downy woodpecker that flew down next to me to snack on wild grapes in the dim light.

The first #wildflowers I've discovered this year on #ClearCreekTrail in #Coralville, Iowa. My ID app suggests that they are Anemone hepatica, aka liverwort aka kidneywort aka pennywort & I tend to agree. This would be a new species for me. I think they're gorgeous and I may see if I can't add this species to my #garden at some point.
