Random story idea: The boulder that Sisyphus has to eternally push up a hill is actually a sentient being (perhaps the soul of another person being punished) and they become best friends through their shared struggle.

Life on Vulkanus, the lost planet of our inner solar system (based off the real life hypothesis of Vulcan). It is a carbon planet, its crust consisting of carbides, graphites and diamonds instead of sillicates. Its seas are made of petroleum.

For something completely different, I made a video where I reminisce about one of the classic dinosaur books from my childhood (hopefully the first part in a series):

Is there a story where the Martians are not an austere, reserved, spartan, militarized, conscientious and super techy bunch of people?

@janbartosik @bookstodon @scifi I have a spec-evo project where life on Mars consists only of simple plants and animals with no intelligent race. Does that count?

@john, over in the Historic Palaeoart group on FB, Richard Hing thought this would be of interest: this is Hans Emmenegger's "Jurassic Period" from (1895). According to Richard, Emmenegger was one of the most important Swiss artists of his generation, making him a rare example of a fine artist getting into .

@john @markwitton (Well, actually from inside the anglosphere, but) John Martin and Alice B. Woodward come to mind. From France there‘s Mathurin Méheut. More recently from Germany there‘s Thomas Thiemeyer (though I guess that depends on your definition of fine artist).

Not quite the same, but the topic also reminds me of how Bill Watterson put some noticeable effort into the dinosaurs he drew for Calvin & Hobbes.

Reddit has many subs where people post photos and users rate them 1-10 on attractiveness. Pretty shallow but whatever. r/TrueRateMe takes this to the next level, if you don't follow their "objective" rules about beauty and "over-rate" more than 2 women you get permabanned.

That's correct, you must conform your ideas to the formula!

What the point of all this is? Beyond me.

Yeah... reddit didn't need this attention at this moment. Being in my 40s I can find this amusing HOWEVER--

Screen cap of users rating the red-head One says 7.7 and is banned for "over rating" another says 9 and is also banned OMG... I guess her elbows were too pointy.

TKSivgin,
@TKSivgin@sauropods.win avatar

@futurebird There‘s a theory (which I believe has been pretty much confirmed by leaked mod convos) that this sub and its fucked up rating system was started by incels with the purpose of giving women suicidal insecurities. Most of the posters probably aren‘t even real women but incel-psyops. The idea is to make unsuspecting viewers think “If this bombshell is only a 5, how ugly am I?“

Working on of a rearing Kentrosaurus for the Palaeogames book today. It's not doing any favours to dissuade my opinion that Godzilla is best interpreted as a gigantic, bipedal, carnivorous stegosaur - official canonical backstory be damned!

TKSivgin,
@TKSivgin@sauropods.win avatar

@markwitton If I remember correctly, in the first movie it is stated that Godzilla is a hybrid of a Stegosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus, which is of course ridiculous for many, many reasons, but does describe the design-process behind him quite well.

In addition to that, in some iterations, his face has quite mammalian features reminiscent of Asian dragons, such as a rhinarium and external ears. Perhaps he is no dinosaur at all but a kind of synapsid.

I love and collecting his games, so look what came in the mail today! On the right is the color port of . Yes you heard right, they fit the whole 3D 16-bit game onto this 8-bit handheld and it is shockingly faithful to the original. I lowkey think this might actually be the best portable version of DKC1. Being in colour, it’s immediately more readable than the DK Land games, while it also looks crisper than the washed-out port. Cont. in comments
