“A new study has analysed 26 RATs from Australia and Canada, finding only six could effectively detect the lowest concentrations of COVID-19… Researchers from James Cook University (JCU) say they were left ‘shocked’ after an analysis of 26 RATs from Australia and Canada found just six were effective at detecting the lowest concentration of COVID-19. One Canadian test failed to detect the COVID-19 protein entirely at any level of concentration… the six best performing RATs included the Canadian-approved BTNX Cassette, Flowflex, Medsup,... Fanttest, Innoscreen, and Juschek… BTNX, PCL, Medriva, Medomics, PanBio (Australia), PanBio (Canada), SDBiosensor, StandardQ, and Touchbio [are] the least responsive tests.”

A friend helped set up this project in Gaza to buy and set up solar panels (already in Gaza, not being used) to help young Palestinian Writers. For each $1k comes in they can buy equipment to transfer to a household.

Please support and share.

#Gaza #GazaGenocide #Israel #Palestine #FromTheRiverToTheSea #PleaseShare #PleaseHelp #MutualAid #IndigenousMutualAid

Since October, Israel's ongoing bombardment of Gaza has destroyed over 50% of all infrastructure, rooftop solar and power stations. Fuel supplies have been cut and residents lack consistent access to food, water or electricity.

Families must walk long distances and wait in line, often for hours, for limited supplies of food and water or to charge a mobile phone (typically their only source of light at night, as well as connection to the outside world).

But a group of young Palestinian writers are fiercely determined to get their stories about Israel's genocide out to the world and are working to Repower Gaza, one light at a time.

We Are Not Numbers (WANN) has located the equipment and technicians inside Gaza necessary to produce a limited amount of solar power kits, enough to immediately restore power to the team of storytellers and their extended families (an estimated 50 households and around 1,000 people). Each kit will generate enough power to light five rooms and power up to 20 mobile phones daily. If more resources become available later, WANN will extend the effort to their broader communities. It will cost US$40,000 to purchase and install the kits.

Donate now and help provide light to Gaza.

The mission of We Are Not Numbers is to train and support a new generation of Palestinian writers, and share their powerful narratives and bring wider understanding to the Palestinian liberation cause.

Please support Repower Gaza and share this grassroots effort to give light, hope and voice to Palestinians resisting genocide with your network.

This project is an initiative of We Are Not Numbers, supported by the Middle East Children's Alliance, a registered US nonprofit organization. All funds raised will go directly to the purchase of solar kit componentry inside Gaza, to be deployed by trained solar technicians.

Every now and then I remember something I enjoyed doing as a kid, and I'm shocked nobody realised I was autistic.

Like i remember my mother trying to coax me not to draw floor plans of places we were because it was so weird it embarrassed her.. but nobody thought to ask why a 6 year old was not only obsessed with drawing floor plans, but also had the spatial reasoning to do so?

@aby Lack of awareness of autism, perhaps.

I only really became aware of it in my 30s, when I befriended someone with Asperger's syndrome who openly talked about this.

Bathurst graffiti at the Aldi carpark

I'm surprised because regional Australia tends to be incredibly racist and conservative.

I'm dropping off an iron at someone's house today, because they posted that they need an iron, and for some reason I have two of them.

They just messaged to say they're feeling a little sick and have a slight fever, so if I still want to drop it off could I just leave it at their front door, but it's also ok if I don't want to do that.

This is exactly how it should be done. They give me information about whether they are sick, and I get to make an informed decision that manages my risk.

I'm a disabled Indigenous queer person who exists on Jobseeker, which means almost 50% ($269/week) below the poverty line ($489/week).

After living in the same house for almost 10 years, I recently had to move as the new landlords decided to renovate so they could increase the rent.

Moving has cost me over $4000, and ended up putting me almost $2500 in debt.

I didn't get rent assistance for the first 6 weeks of living here because they lost my lease copy and they're refusing to backpay it. So I started the first 6 weeks here adding over $180 a fortnight to that debt as well.

I'm in a new house with a new landlord, and am barely able to make rent at the moment, let alone cover bills and food.

I hate asking, but please consider helping if you can - I'd be super grateful.

"Abolish Criminology presents critical scholarship on criminology and criminal justice ideologies and practices, alongside emerging freedom-driven visions and practices for new world formations.

The book introduces readers to a detailed history and analysis of crime as a concept and its colonizing trajectories into existence and enforcement. These significant contexts buried within peculiar academic histories and classroom practices are often overlooked or unknown outside academic and public discussions, causing the impact of racializing-gendering-sexualizing histories to extend and grow through criminology’s creation of crime, extending how the concept is weaponized and enforced through the criminal legal system. It offers written, visual, and poetic teachings from the perspectives of students, professors, imprisoned and formerly imprisoned persons, and artists. This allows readers to engage in multi-sensory, inter-disciplinary, and multi-perspective teachings on criminology’s often discussed but seldom interrogated mythologies on violence and danger, and their wide-reaching enforcements through the criminal legal system’s research, theories, agencies, and dominant cultures.

Abolish Criminology serves the needs of undergraduate and graduate students and educators in the social sciences, arts, and humanities. It will also appeal to scholars, researchers, policy makers, activists, community organizers, social movement builders, and various reading groups in the general public who are grappling with increased critical public discourse on policing and criminal legal reform or abolition."

kkarhan,

@aby damn... I can understand high prices for low-volume, high quality, THICC physical books, but I think digital should be significantly cheaper in comparison.

aby,
@aby@aus.social avatar

@kkarhan - yes, and it especially annoys me knowing that the authors don't see any real money and it is all taken by the publishers.

What struck me most about those who rioted was how long they waited. The restraint they showed. Not the spontaneity, the restraint. They waited and waited for justice and it didn’t come. No one talks about that.
