@grb090423@aby indeed!
“Correct English” is a misnomer. The way English is spoken today bears no resemblance to how it was spoken hundreds of years ago, and there is a convincing theory that the grammar and syntax of English is effectively pidgin- a vastly simplified version of what was originally spoken.
For learners, this makes English very easy to speak badly, but very difficult to speak well.
Help, I've fallen down a conspiracy theory hole and the comments are fucking FASCINATING.
The discussion:
if the US and Russia share a border, why does it take 19 hours to fly from Alaska to Moscow?? What are they hiding???
Some of the comments:
One day I looked at the back of the globe and my mind didn’t feel right
It's strange how the flight is still 9+ hours no matter which airline you take
Sooo where does that put australia & New Zealand, Papuan New Guinea?? Ive have suspected all is closer then we are told!
cause every time you change time zones you go into a new dimension and you have to adjust to it . just a theory
anybody else think it's strange that airports use...flight manifests??? them naming it a manifest infers they're manifesting or 'creating' falsehoods...
You just clicked something in my brain😫 How are we SO programed?????
the US and Russia DO share a small maritime border, that's about 55 minutes "drive" to cross
** it's a maritime border, so you can't really "drive" across it
This little arsehole looks like butter wouldn't melt. Well, let me tell you the truth!
Each morning she gets a treat, she has a jar of them with 5 or 6 different varieties, and I pull one out of the jar and offer it to her.
If I don't pull the right one, she sniffs at it and then bites my finger.. not hard, but just enough to get the point across that I'm shirking in my duties and to pick another fucking treat before someone gets hurt.
This morning none of the treats were right. I ended up throwing a berry one into the cage from a distance and running into another room. I'm currently huddled in the bottom of the closet under a pile of coats (not really...).
She's bullying me. She weights less than a bottle of milk.
More men need to take active measures to not follow women tbh.
Like, my partner will cross the street and go out of his way if he's walking behind a woman, so that she doesn't feel threatened or bothered by his presence.
Today I was "followed" by a man in a parking lot. I know he wasn't following me, I knew it at the time as well, that he was just walking to his car the same as I was.. but it scared me. A lot.
I would have appreciated it if he crossed away from me. It would have been a great kindness.
@ruemaleficent@Chunderstout That “every” is pulling a lot of weight there, especially since I come from an academic background.
Anyhow, I’d also recommend that you read “Self-Made Man” by Norah Vincent. There’s a lot of prejudice being thrown around, and I think it would offer you a fresh perspective as well concerning the male experience.
(As an aside, the core issue could be solved by… women crossing the street when they feel threatened. I don’t see why men have to be forced to do it for them)
Mia had to pop to the vet today, because we think she might have a uti.
Turns out she's just a little bit old and struggling with a touch of incontinence.. so she's got some medication and an appointment in two weeks to see how she's going.
