I'm working on a talk and I'm in this weird place where it's basically Schrödingers talk for me: Nobody has seen it yet, so it could be great or aweful - I've lost all feeling for that at the moment.

Do other know this feeling?! Like: "Hey this is really good... or absolutly rubbish, could go both ways 🤷‍♀️"

@mirjam_diala Have you done a run-through yet? Sometimes you just have to present it to tell (doesn’t help, I know) :)

Case in point: The second-worst talk I ever gave was the one where I realised I wasn’t interested in the topic half-way through giving it.

(The worst talk I ever gave was the first talk I ever gave. Made every mistake you can make: crammed too much in, overran terribly, someone fell asleep, etc. In retrospect, was the best learning experience ever.) :)

@mirjam_diala I have a feeling you’re going to be just fine. Because, clearly, you care and, in the end, that’s all that’s matters.

(And thank you for the kind words. It helps tremendously when you make nearly every possible mistake in one go if you’re self-critical – to a fault? – and willing to learn from them. My second talk was immeasurably better. And then it just took giving a few hundred more…) :P

Do share it with us if it gets recorded. Would love to watch it :)

Anyone here know anyone from Paddle that you can put me in touch with? (Or share your experience with them?)

I’m reconsidering whether Stripe is the right solution for the initial payments option in Domain (https://codeberg.org/domain/app) or whether it makes more sense (and would be easier for folks who want to run their own Domain instances and become Small Web hosts) if I integrated a Merchant of Record (MoR) solution instead.

aral,
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

Yep, it looks like I’m going with Paddle (https://paddle.com) as the first supported payment system for Domain*.

(Barring any issues with getting our use case approved.)

So, asking again: does anyone know anyone that works at ? Would love to talk to them about what we’re trying to do with the Small Web and Kitten ** and Domain and hopefully have them support our use case.

@Sdevore My eventual goal is to support multiple so it’s on my list too. But need to start with one :)

Ivory for iOS/iPadOS 1.4 is out on the App Store! It will slowly roll out over the next few days, but if you want it now, go to the App Store and manually update.

Our next task is getting the Mac app out and then we will continue with the items on our public roadmap: https://tapbots.com/ivory/#roadmap

Illustrated meme of no one in line for the booth titled, “FEATURES EVERYONE HAS BEEN ASKING FOR SINCE DAY ONE!” While everyone is in line for the booth titled, “NEW ICONS…”

@ivory Thanks for all the alt-text features, folks :)

https://jacobinlat.com/2023/04/16/the-department-of-decolonialism/

@ana_valdi “Denouncing colonial universalism does not mean renouncing universalism … Have we radicalized emancipation in anything with our renunciation of the universal?“ (Auto translation.)

Spot on and so relevant to what we’re trying to achieve in creating decolonial technology that’s universal not because we’re at its centre but because the local communities that own it can interoperate.

CC @VjosaMusliu, I have a feeling you’d love this.

Thanks for sharing 💕

Just listening to RNZ and Peter Griffin. Why does anyone think 'Startups' are a) a good idea, and b) deserving of taxpayer funding? Isn't that just trickle down economics?

@alexl What does “waging war between the poor” mean? Who’s doing this and how are they doing it? Are Element poor? They have at least $30M in VC.

Also, raising awareness is a huge part of what I do. How do you propose we raise awareness without challenging crap like this? How does anything change if we remain quiet?

I’m sorry but, if anything, I’m more confused that before. I don’t understand what you’re criticising and why.

aral,
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

@devnull @ohne_sonne @melunaka But if you go and speak at a freaking police conference, sell your wares to them, and then brag about it that says something rather different, no?

@devnull @ohne_sonne @melunaka Thought it was part of the thread but apparently it’s not.

Ok so I have a slightly embarrassing question

What's a good text editor for Linux,

  • that supports regexes,
  • and has a graphical user interface designed sometime this millenium,
  • and that isn't emacs or vim,
  • please don't recommend emacs or vim
aral,
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

@kaye I use Helix Editor but that doesn’t have a GUI (it’s modal. Modern, but modal.)

Otherwise, VSCodium runs on Linux. I believe Sublime Text does too, although that’s proprietary.

Good luck on your search and do let us know what you end up using :)
