I would like to remind the world that you actually don't have to get into bed with OpenAI. StackOverflow was a beacon of resistance, but I guess their principles were for sale after all.

https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/stack-overflow-bans-users-en-masse-for-rebelling-against-openai-partnership-users-banned-for-deleting-answers-to-prevent-them-being-used-to-train-chatgpt

@philtor @emilymbender Really? I find this a completely understandable reaction. The contributors were betrayed, reacting angrily (and tactically) makes a lot of sense to me.

The weirder ones are the contributors that are just cheerfully carrying while being harvested like wheat.

I have a song stuck in my head for 3 days now and I cannot figure out what it is.

I have attempted to play the piano interlude in this song almost 10 years ago which is the only reference I have to this. Does anyone know what song this is actually part of?

@patrickworld 2.9/10 on IMDB, super yikes. That might be the worst thing he's ever done. Too bad, I was kind of intrigued by the description.

    @kubikpixel As I understand it, "2FA" is literally the abbreviation of "two-factor authentication". Are you saying that is not true, or just that it is not true in practice (e.g. when a corporation implements it badly)?

    I'm eyeballing a desktop with Ryzen/Radeon for a rig.

    It's eye-wateringly expensive, does anyone have any experience with these to give me a sense of how well it would work with Steam before I close my eyes and click "add to cart"?

    bgardner,
    @bgardner@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @WagesOf I hear what you are saying, but I painted myself into a corner with my DIY PC I currently have that turned out unable to power a Radeon above a 5500 (because the PSU was wimpy) and the PSU could not be upgraded because of the shape of the case.

    Short version - I was an idiot and I'm trying to factor my own idiocy out of this one. :P

    bgardner,
    @bgardner@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @WagesOf Because I can no longer upgrade my desktop (see prior dumb choices) I am now looking at twice that cost to replace it. So yeah, I'm prepared to spend a bit to be sure all the parts work together and can be upgraded.

    Being cheap before is now costing me more.

    bgardner,
    @bgardner@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @WagesOf Yeah, let me try again:

    I'm old, older than the Internet, probably older than you. Linux user for 25 years. I've built hundreds of PCs. It's not a fun task anymore and I want a complete, working machine that can be upgraded (minimally) later. I cheaped out last time and assembled a desktop from several places. Not repeating that again.

    I appreciate your effort but I'm not looking for general guidance, I just asked if anyone had experience with the Thelio boxes.

    Hey , I have an RTX 2070 Super and since I'm a Linux gamer 98% of the time, I've been thinking about going team red. I found a dude who might be down to trade me a Radeon VII for my 2070S... is that a good deal or a bad deal?

    Linux compatibility should be way better, and it seems like performance is comparable, but idk about raytracing performance and I've heard the R VII can be pretty loud.

    Opinions? Advice?

    bgardner,
    @bgardner@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @ADHDefy My gear is not nearly as good as yours, but I moved from Nvidia to Radeon and the compatibility difference is astonishing. Radeon mostly Just Works.

    if you've bought @lisyarus's game costa verde transport department and enjoyed it please leave a review, the game only needs 3 more to get to 10 which usually results in a boost in steam's algorithm

    if you haven't seen it yet, it's a cozy traffic simulator which is here on steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2403100/Costa_Verde_Transport_Department/

    Right now it just grows and grows and everything I've tried does nothing.

    My fallback plan is to clear them occasionally from the web interface but that seems... bonkers.
