[Fentanyl Superlabs in Canada?! Did you say Canada?]

Fentanyl super labs in Canada pose new threat for U.S. opioid epidemic

The Canadian labs are a curveball for U.S. authorities whose efforts to combat fentanyl are focused on the southern border with Mexico. ...Nearly all that technology has been deployed along the U.S. southern border, where CBP confiscated nearly 27,000 pounds of fentanyl during the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, the most ever.

darrelplant,

@johnshirley2024 Loved the quote at the end about how at least Canada’s government officials aren’t all corrupted by drug money like they are in Mexico and wondering “How long do you think it’s going to stay that way, dude?”

The people that Bernie Madoff stole from, got most of their money back. ~90% at this point. 👍🏿

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-total-distribution-over-4-billion-victims-madoff-ponzi-scheme#

Because Madoff stole from mostly rich, mostly white people, ultra high net worth individuals, financial institutions. US society makes sure that rich folk are made whole, have loans forgiven (Eg PPP), etc.

But the people that SBF stole from are unlikely to ever get their money back. Because they were disproportionately Black, low net worth individuals. AKA, normal people.

Oh what's that? San Francisco just started using bait cars to catch car break-ins crews? And they've already found that SF car break-in suspects are not homeless Black people in the Tenderloin, but professional car break-in experts that are mostly not Black that hit cars in touristy areas, to find laptops and cameras that they sell to fences that move the stolen goods to other cities?

Like Black folk in the Bay have been trying to tell y'all for years?

The past few days were a stark reminder of how unbelievably more toxic Twitter/X has become and how it’s lost most of its utility as a political communications platform. I wrote this a while ago - I think it’s still relevant:

Doesn't "lurching to the right" imply that they weren't already there? I really can't remember a time when "white, predominantly male elites" weren't already pretty far right. And weird. As I was asking just yesterday: Where are the "normal" billionaires? They seem to be in a race to prove Howard Hughes was just one of the guys.

This survey is a big waste of time, because it doesn't ask the important questions about why Black people feel this way, or what would fix it. "More education" for journalists will not fix this.

    1. Cops lie about Black people and crime. Constantly. The first thing cops say following an incident is almost always a lie.

    2. Every journalist that works a crime beat knows this. Not "suspects" this. Knows this.

    3. And yet, they print the lies anyway.🤡

    Space Sweepers (2021)

    darrelplant,

    @TheSpaceshipper
I loved this movie, particularly when I noticed one of the characters’s backstory had him in my home town and state, which I think are the only specific places on Earth that are mentioned. When I first saw it I wondered if Netflix had come up with a system to geo-personalize insignificant details in their content.

Evidence photo from movie “Space Sweepers”. Tall stacks of currency held together with thin bands fill the image. In the top left are the words SPRINGFIELD, OREGON PPB”; at lower right is the date 10/12/2089. Superimposed over the top center of the photo are closed captions in Korean.

In Lester Del Rey's scifi novel Nerves (about a nuclear power plant), the workers are called "atom-jacks", presumably a neologism based on "steeplejack". Jack is an ancient term for person.

In Michael McCollum's Gibraltar Stars is the term "vacuum-jack" for a construction worker in space.

Can you think of any other jacks?
