Nate, #Trump almost murdered #Biden during a #debate last cycle by rolling up on the stage as a biological weapon. Norms and traditions went out the window long ago.
Nate Silver:
You're supposed to be the candidate who stands up for norms and traditions and now you're ducking this tradition?
"The President will not be participating in the Commission of Presidential Debates' announced debates."
@GottaLaff@atrupar proud to see nate silver, the voice of bad science, 100% in the bag for the "punish the dems on norms, but not the republicans" crowd
If you design a system such that you cannot differentiate people from corporations and bots and thatโs your defense for calling all of them โusersโ, youโve designed a system that conflates people โ who are mortal, have feelings, can feel pain and be hurt and who have human rights that must be protected โ with the very entities that oftentimes exist to exploit them.
Design for people. Call them people. All else is secondary.
@rbreich start calling them ayn randists -- it's the one thing that shames them, even though they love all her ideas, but they can't call themselves smart if they are ayn randists
Todd Blanche: We move for a mistrial based on the testimony this morning, the guardrails were thrown aside, that testimony was so unduly prejudicial to Trump and the charges in this case and the testimony about the incident in 2006 is way different from the stories she was pedaling in 2016,
@GottaLaff pick a spot or witness to put your foot down and scream (endlessly), no matter the merit -- classic rich man's tactic that they were always going to use
@dangillmor this is like the ur-statement for every person who claims they can separate their moral home life from dog-eat-dog borderline illegal work life
@dangillmor the movie industry is going to have to come up with a new trope for dealing with journalism stories -- no more "all the presidents men" for many more idiots running the show farces
What an absolute disaster that Republicans are still successfully playing their disgustingly cynical game of exploiting fears over antisemitism in order to advance their reactionary crusade โ and mainstream institutions keep willfully playing along.
The true power of #genAI is not technological, but rhetorical: almost all conversations about it are about what executives are saying it will do "one day" or "soon" rather than what we actually see (and of course no mention of business model which doesn't exist).
We are told to simultaneously believe AI is so "early days" as to excuse any lack of real usefulness, and that it is so established - even "too big to fail" - that we are not permitted to imagine a future without it.
@arstechnica ok, can we dispel the notion that there is ANYBODY good in silicon valley -- the whole load of them would consume the earth into an absolute desert and kill every last one of us
The leadership, donors, and consultant class of the national Democratic Party see themselves as part of a white ruling elite with Republicans and the centrist "intelligentsia," and they don't care about social or economic progress for anyone outside that group and a halo of white middle class center-right voters except as absolutely necessary for social stability.
They're still better than Republicans, who would murder half of us given the chance, but that's not saying much.
@gwynnion because their power comes from many (often conflicting) sources, they don't have the opportunity to become as evil as their aspirations would necessitate -- the goal always should be of fracturing power as much as possible
if corporate scientists who crow about the primacy of the scientific method don't want to get challenged on motives there is a very simple solution -- don't shill for corporations
So the way the IDF chose targets was (1) an AI spat out tens of thousands of names of potential Hamas members; (2) those people's homes were made bombing targets; (3) no one bothered to review any of it or even see if the person was home; (4) the potential for civilian casualties didn't matter. https://www.972mag.com/lavender-ai-israeli-army-gaza/
A couple of days ago, Trump expressed his support of Netanyahu and "finishing his job in Gaza." Today, Putin, as he devastates Ukraine, is criticizing Netanyahu. Watch Trump flip-flop even faster than he did about TikTok after he spoke to a major TikTok investor/donor!
@lauren this is a weird problem going ahead -- putin wants to (and will) destroy israel for iran and putin needs china, the two places trump wants to go to war against
every single one of the "let's put trump in context" journalists know 100% exactly well that, should he be elected, trump will view every single one of his off the wall statements as mandated by vote
