An American friend of mine thinks beans on toast is disgusting. So to all none Brits (as we find it delicious)…is it disgusting to you?

Side note - I find it astonishing that someone from the country that invented “cheese in a can” can find this “dish” disgusting. 😂

gnuplusmatt,

@kev its an aussie staple dish too, but that could be because of our shared lineage 👍

Correct me if I am somehow wrong, but buying modern music on vinyl is pointless, right?

The music is digitally mastered, their is no benefit, no rich analogue sound.

I have the real way to prevent backdoors. Never enable sshd on a system and instead go back to the old tried and true method of communicating remotely over physical RS-232 instead.

gnuplusmatt,
@gnuplusmatt@fosstodon.org avatar

@vwbusguy still have a couple of rs-232 cables on my desk. Couple of times a year I still have to interact with a console port on a switch

I have eaten at Outback Steakhouse 3 times this year, each time in a different month, and in different county, but I ordered the same thing each time (a blooming onion and a prime rib).

Here's my ranking for best to worst of the three:

  • Brea, Orange County
  • Arcadia, Los Angeles County
  • Oxnard, Ventura County

@vwbusguy as an Australian, just an FYI there is nothing Australian about outback steakhouse

When they opened some here they quickly failed 😆

If you're running 40 Beta or Rawhide or Sid or some other rolling distro, an ssh backdoor was found in xz and you need to downgrade immediately.

@vwbusguy @gordonmessmer investigation is still on going though - we don't know if it actually had that capability? Or am I out of the loop?

I dont have anything I can't redeploy, but ugh its a long weekend

Framework Laptop owners, testing welcome and encouraged!

However, please follow @fedora recommendations for reporting back as outlined in "Testing Needed" section of their article.

@frameworkcomputer I think most Linux users know how to deal with dragons when there be dragons ahead.

Personally I use OStree/atomic and I've been moving my Framework between Fedora rawhide and 40 releases since last December and nary a dragon be seen.

What do fellow sysadmins do with regards to alert emails. Our system is let all the systems email the one address. It's hoped between the 3 senior admins we'll catch important stuff. But these days it's become very noisy and with staff shortages this week some issues have been over looked, causing a short outage.

Do you have elaborate email filters? Fancy triaging systems? Does every alert open a ticket?

PeterSoukup, to KDE Czech

OK, I hate to say it, as much as I love Plasma, but my first impressions of KDE Plasma 6 is quite disappointing. Do you know how supermarkets rearrange everything once in a while and you can't find shit because nothing is where it's supposed to be and you're just pissed because you see zero benefits except a giant waste of your time. That's how I feel. I spend half an hour searching for one of my favorite features ...

gnuplusmatt,
@gnuplusmatt@fosstodon.org avatar

@PeterSoukup I think you needed to temper your expectations. This was mainly a move to a new version of Qt and an opportunity to make some changes in the back end, its still an evolution of Plasma 5, this was never like KDE3 to 4 or 4 to 5 for that matter.

Its better plasma 5, and that's all it was ever going to be

gnuplusmatt,
@gnuplusmatt@fosstodon.org avatar

@PeterSoukup nate graham was pretty clear how it all came together, if you follow his blog. There were new features for sure, but if you followed the iteration, it was always built upon version 5. There was never a new visual design and the glut of actual official coverage was on the move to Qt6.

For some its their first time giving the wayland version an honest try, and for others giving plasma another try since the disaster that was the early launch of 5, for those people its honest hype.

adding to my brand . Bought a set of jabra elite earbuds only to find out they don't connect as standard bluetooth audio devices. They don't work on Linux or the Windows PC I tested them on.

Official support response is that they are only supported on Android or ios. How the fuck do you screw up implementing a standard like bluetooth audio?? I've had plantronics, sennheiser and aftershockz that litterally work on everything.

Never again

@mike @Vivaldi just fired it up, haven't used vivaldi in a long while. No flatpak didn't help. Much more performant ui than it used it be.

Another flatpak that gives the wayland icon and has to be married up manually with a window rule to it's executable name
