How to note Sunak’s election announcement here? Getting drenched in rain was symbolic & symptomatic; tragically a child died in a mudslide in Yorkshire the same day.

Will this election be decisive from a climate policy point of view? Labour will be better, but how much exactly who knows, given scrapped pledges. Of course i am hopeful for Green party gains. But actual positive excitement and energy, again rallying everyone to make this a etc? sadly, no.

In La Somme, northern France, night before last.

This took 30min of rainfall. One old lady who has lived there for ~70yrs, said she'd never seen anything remotely like it.

This too is going to get so much worse.

And yes, I am aware of the irony/tragedy/whatever-you-want-to -call -it, that flying contributes to climate change and therefore turbulence. And now pondering whether climate change will in turn soon make flying too dangerous, and that there is a certain justice in that. All this; but for now do feel sorry for people on this flight.

@pvonhellermannn

Actually, it'll probably just make the pollution worse.

I would guess that they'd simply fly at a higher altitude to pass over the turbulence. This comes at increased cost/pollution (fuel) and obviously the aircraft's structure will have to go up a notch.

For context, Concorde flew at ~60,000ft and today, most flights are ~30-40,000ft.

Worth emphasizing this, because most news outlets did not:

“Rep. Matt #Gaetz (R-Fla.) on Thursday ominously invoked Donald #Trump’s call to far-right violent extremists while joining the former president at his criminal trial in New York.

“Standing back and standing by, Mr. President,” Gaetz wrote on social media, along with a photo of himself positioned behind Trump at his trial.”

It’s spring and it’s wonderful. So much joy, beauty, abundance, grandeur from nature, just there, in my otherwise mundane neighbourhood. Bluebells feel very early, along with everything else, but i also want to relish and be grateful for all whilst we still have it.

Boris and the Tories are as myopic as MyopicMaggie. Their world is led by money, not by people's lives.

So with an event like covid, they're all running around in circles, completely confused.

I spent much of my childhood on a Scottish isle, with golden sand and a deserted beach at the bottom of the garden. I’ve loved seagulls since.
Stormy days and plunging Gannets. Twilight Oyster Catchers and their evocative call. The grace of Great Black Backed gulls.
Later I flew gliders, inspired by gulls.
I've dreamt that when I die, I could be fed to Fulmars, so my atoms soar the oceans within them

In case anyone’s not too sure.. this is what a 'spring lawn' is supposed to look like.

Breakdown:

• No irritating lawn-mower lines.
• A multitude of flowers.
• Lawn-mower rests, unperturbed in garden shed.
• No Louis X1V - 'rules over nature'.
• No walking up and down for hours, making a really annoying, loud noise and irritating the neighbours.

• Just peace, quiet and LOTS of bees.

Putin said, the US warning of an eminent terror attack was fake news. Then the terrorists opened fire.

Then came the “news”, 40 people were killed. Now the death toll is 133.

Putin said, the attackers were caught. Then they released a video.

Putin said, they were related to Ukraine. In the video they speak Tajik and say “Allahu Akbar”, and ISIS has claimed responsibility.

To know if Putin is lying, check if his mouth is moving.

"The M3 ‌MacBook Air‌ is more machine than the average consumer likely even needs"

High praise. I like the sweet spot between the Air and the MacBook Pro.

Only reason to buy the Pro is if you've got a specific workflow that demands it.

I still like 16GB of RAM for future proofing, but not against 8GB to keep the price down.

One of the twists, is that with the recent faster SD cards and with MacBooks that cannot be upgraded after purchase, the SD slot is a really simple, really cheap way to add a lot of extra storage space. You can even use them for Time Machine. No dongles. No sticky-outy bits and you can store them in your wallet.

My discipline, anthropology, is not seen as a “growth" discipline, and departments are being closed down. But the world needs Anthropology and Anthropologists now more than ever!

Here are my 8 reasons for this:

  1. POSSIBILITIES
At a time of polycrisis, when the destructive fallouts of capitalist modernity are ever more apparent, anthropology highlights that there are myriad alternative ways of thinking and living; that there is so much to learn from other peoples in the world. 1/n

Pauline, I may not be understanding exactly what you're saying, but the crux on here is that you can follow hashtags. Just click on one and the follow button appears at the top.

Equally, this reminds me of your mention of wanting to see posts in other languages. Likewise, just follow a hashtag in that language, e.g. 'climat'.

Also, you can do as I did when I joined and either pin a post with hashtags, or put them in your bio. Hashtags are the thing.
