@strypey @pixelfed yes. those are who i mean, summing them up as “wikipedia” same as peoole usually do vs “the specific volunteers involved in deciding to include/leave out a specific thing at the current time.” 🤷🏼‍♀️

@strypey @pixelfed i guess i take “get some help here” to mean “apply some pressure to the wikipedia volunteers.” i read their criteria for notability a couple years ago. it surprised me a bit. i jon’s a couple folks in it so was curious.

@strypey @pixelfed thanks. that clarified it for me. 👍 and yeah, people get overzealous sometimes. none of that stuff is cut and dried. i’m a retired copy editor and you’re always seeing edge cases and making calls, i’m sure it’s even more so for wikipedia.

@strypey also also 😜 if i were deciding those sorts of things, id lean toward inclusion for up and coming things, esp those that are beneficial to culture (ie, favor openness rather than locking down). one day i might be moved to volunteer, who knows.

@CelloMomOnCars @Hawaii it’s done a lot to recover, we have a wonderful mayor, committed to rehousing all and a lot have been, but there’s still a lot to be done. thank you for asking 🙏 (big long tail: our local med clinic is booked a year out. they won’t allow new appointments. you just have to keep trying every few months. fewer vets to help animals too.)

@vlrny it's like that for anything you buy, sometimes offline too.best bet: read the reviews, esp 4xstsr ones (they like it but for one thing). some issues may not bother you. i do know wayfair is considered "not the best but usually will do, for awhile"

If someone compares Jews to Nazis, the group that killed half the Jews in the world, that is Nazi Inversion, and it's antisemitic. Invoking the Nazis or the Holocaust as so called "rhetorical speech" to talk about the actions of Jews is antisemitic.

It's very clear, it's very simple, and it's not stopping anyone from criticizing anything, because the same argument could be made without Nazi Inversion, and if it couldn't be, then it's not criticism at all, but simply words used to attack, intimidate or in some other way harm Jews.

I'm happy to see that other instances are starting to take Nazi Inversion seriously and act on it when their users engage in hate speech. I strongly encourage all instances who want to stop antisemitism to do the same.

@serge true, the same argument can be made without that. but as with all genocide stuff, people bring in the most egregious example in modern times, which was nazis. in this case, it also adds irony. "i want this country to stop killing starving civilians when they are at the food trucks" is not synonymous with "i don't like jews." i'm buddhist and have zero issues calling out muslims for what they do to the rohingya. i'm not anti buddhist. i'm anti-slaughter.

@serge also, what the israeli govt is doing? is not at all good for the jewish people. not politically, and not for their own well being psychologically. its well known that killing harms those doing it as much or more than those they target. that's regardless of why. and it gives cover to actual antisemites.

@msquebanh it's lined even more thickly with dark money, and the legal bribery we've allowed. it wont change unless we vote in those who will strike down citizens united, make gerrymandering illegal, and actually prosecute white collar crime and political crime. oh, and return to taxing massive wealth at 90% like we used to to defang our de facto oligarchy.

I'm going to tell the story about what radicalized me against "the news" as a source of useful information that could be trusted.

I had been an avid news reader for a long time, very much about using different tools and aggregators and RSS and stuff to deliver a nonstop stream of what I considered high-quality news sources into my brain.

I'd see people complain about now the news was "biased" or "clickbait" and I just kind of dismissed it.

For my next pair of linen (pyjama) pants, I’ve narrowed it down to 4 choices for topstitching thread… @sewing

L to R:

• the darkest grey provides contrast; tex 45 is almost “heavy duty” for garment construction seams but on the thin side for topstitching thread

• sew-all Gütermann is tex 30 so I'd have to double it up for topstitching (a bit annoying)

• lightest grey is tex 80 so best to use it for topstitching only (and something else for construction seams)

• white is also tex 80

Hopefully at least a half dozen of these budding lemons will hang on and mature into full fruit. The plant is covered in them at the moment but can’t sustain them all so most of them fall off. Fingers crossed a few hang on though! 🍋
