folk: Julian O'Shea just announced a short encore run of his fantastic Melbourne themed comedy show M is for Melbourne. It's so much fun https://thebutterflyclub.com/show/m-is-for-melbourne-the-world-s-mostly-liveable-city

We're only on the third song, and we've already had two sung in languages other than English. A good omen for the rest of the night, hopefully.

@liampomfret brace yourself for Ireland/UK back to back. It’s an experience

@liampomfret plenty more to come. Finland is like if mastodon sent a Eurovision entry….

So weird hearing people still using the phrase “avoid it like the plague” when we’ve conclusively established most people aren’t that committed to avoiding plagues

I was wondering about the longest domestic trip you could do by air in Australia. Glancing online, it looks like flying from the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean to Norfolk Island in the Pacific (via Perth and Sydney) would take about 12 hours flying time, not factoring in the transit time at airports. That would be one long trek!

joannaholman,
@joannaholman@aus.social avatar

@timrichards that is probably the best you could do on commercial flights but on charter Australian Antarctic territory is technically an option

There should be a law that streaming platforms cannot increase their prices without providing verification of a corresponding increase in payouts to artists/content creators

Today I learned the Australian government designates a selection of phone numbers that look real but will never be actually active for use in TVs or movies. Could be useful if you ever need a fake number to sign up for something but don't want a stranger getting spammed https://www.acma.gov.au/phone-numbers-use-tv-shows-films-and-creative-works

Kinda cool to see a stream train on the Metro network but I have questions about who thought it was okay to run it under the southern cross roof where it made the air visibly dirty

Nothing says greenwashing like advertising a luxury product as refillable on a 4 story high banner likely made of non recyclable materials

Love waking up to find out six hours ago someone edited a toot I’d boosted to say something wildly different and kinda problematic. There should be a limit to how much you can edit toots that have been boosted. Fix a typo? Absolutely. Totally change the content? No

joannaholman,
@joannaholman@aus.social avatar

@jedsetter it’s possible some servers have worked out how to set up stricter rules but the standard is it lets you edit and then notifies the people who boosted you of the edit

joannaholman,
@joannaholman@aus.social avatar

@stib @jedsetter as is you can easily unboost it. I think the big problem is a lot of people aren’t here all the time and/or are flooded with other notifications so a maliciously edited boost could easily sit on their profile for days before they notice

joannaholman,
@joannaholman@aus.social avatar

@timrichards possibly. Changed it to a strong political sentiment unrelated to the original post

The big price rises at cafes and restaurants are helping me save money, because there are red lines I will not cross.

Eg I'm not paying more than $15 for a sandwich or $25 for a pub/cafe main. And I'm definitely not paying double figures for a slice of cake! Jesus.

Pubs and bars are getting a bit cheeky with pricing zero-alcohol beers too. I don't mind $9-$10 for a Heaps Normal, but no way am I paying $12. It's soft drink after all, get real.

@timrichards recently started using the EatClub app which sometimes discounts stuff enough to make them reasonable.

folk, the ANZ banking museum has reopened in the gothic bank on the corner of Collins and Queen streets, moving into the ground floor grand chamber. The banking paraphernalia may or may not be interesting but the building is gorgeous and you can now get a look easier than when the whole floor was a bank branch
