@br00t4c great article. Trump does play to emotions (and not rationality), the mainstream media generally tells my generation and older what to think... Which is weird because my generation built the foundation of social media, citizen journalism, etc

Trump shows the dangers of emotive, Biden faces the dangers of rationality. That was a very good piece.

Disappointed the real estate agent (is that Realtor(TM)?) at the door, who specifically drove over to my house to try to figure out if we were selling (noticed the pods out front for the last few months due to our disaster remodeling), LOL. Has been showing up regularly trying to find "the owners", based on all my security camera logs... (there is a shortage of inventory on the market here, for sure).

    @gimulnautti yeah, I learned the history and present issues from a friend on Twitter who is from one of the federated nation states in the early days of the invasion. I was trying to navigate the because I've seen much of it in the and .

    I was floored about how much I didn't know.

    Putin is sending his opposition to the front lines. In that regard, he wins either way. Yet Ukraine has stepped up attacks on infrastructure, which is sound strategy.

    Sorry, I had to procrastinate more by making a detailed sampling of the Facebook timeline shiteousness. I understated it. Scrolling through 102 postsafter a refresh the breakdown was: 3 from my follows, 79 "suggestions",19 ads, 1 reels item (this time just once but often that comes up multiple times). Worse, posts from my follows only occured in the first 10. The suggestions started off not bad but then got horrible. Ads were universally garbage. Thank god for the fediverse!

    i low key don't want to see a big jump in or capabilities anytime soon. rn they're capable enough that my mom wants to use them, but bad enough that even she has an intuitive sense for when they're wrong

    that's how you build "AIQ", the skill of using it. Lots of people toying with them, to feel out their capabilities and limitations

    @kellogh It also requires a grounding in knowing topics well enough to know when you're getting bullshitted.

    The polite term in circles is 'hallucination', but really it's a 5 year old just making stuff up because it doesn't want to disappoint with an "I don't know".

    (but 5 year olds deploy the same thing when they're in trouble. So wait for an AI to do that. LOL)

    The NAACP had a tweet on it I saw embedded somewhere, comparing banning it to... I think it was gun control?

    This is a crazy non-issue to me that everyone seems to have their underpants twisted on.

    @AAKL @Reuters What's most interesting when considering China is that their government isn't forced into thinking in election cycles. Their idea of long term planning is centuries.

    that's the hardest thing for people to get their heads around when we talk about China. Understanding that and respecting that makes recent issues related to so many things... they're more visible than before, and their soft power is projected around the world.

    TikTok is only a blip for them.

    They collect the data of other nations and keep their own. Sort of like we do. The mechanisms are different.

    @AAKL @Reuters It is in a national security context. Our FISA bill pretty much does the same thing, and with our servers hosting so much information from other countries.

    Consider Google's deal with Israel, that caused a tempest in the news... all that information is feeding our intelligence community as well.

    FISA allows us to peek, and also to see who people are talking to within the U.S.

    I look at all of this from a privacy standpoint. Governments can use the information in many ways.
