This is an experiment and demonstration that a CW can be added to single post in a thread.

In this post, I'm not using a CW, but am going to add one to a reply to this.

kristinHenry, (edited )
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

And yes, I can reply to my CW'd post in this thread and post this one without the CW.

This is seriously cool!

It gives us such granular control over how we post and what we read.

For those who don't already know: the students of the @KhouryVis lab participate every week in a "music league", anonymously upvoting each others' songs submitted on a particular theme.

This week: data vis album art! While we're voting... do you have any favorites of your own?

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

@KhouryVis I love most of the album covers from XTC

Dear StackOverflow,

You can't ban me from your platform, because I've never felt safe adding my knowledge there (being a woman who codes).

But it's been an invaluable tool for me, for years, to quickly find the code solutions I need...usually small details and quirks in various libraries.

Now? What on earth are you thinking?!!!! Why partner with OpenAI?!!!

Yeah, I get that the sweet-abundant VC money is hard to resist....but seriously? WTF!!!!

Hey vis.social folks!

We could use some more help on our "part-time" moderators team.

Academics, Artists, Creative Coders, and more! We seek diversity of fields and backgrounds.

Especially if you're up to date on current AI tools, so that it's easier to spot posts on our Local Timeline that should have a CW.

Here's our application form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeCflISwvcYXOtAxEhRlI80xLPdoIUy2j1_GGW0Mg8rofRUJQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

@jguerra @huggingface Just a gentle reminder about CW's on our Local timeline and our instance rules: https://vis.social/about
CW on AI topics. Please add CW for posts about AI and AI tools.

Because it's from Hugging Face, you might want to use "Ethical AI" in the CW.

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

@jguerra I was curious about the text analysis library you used, so I looked it up. It's labeled as AI on the huggingface site, so it really should have a CW of some sort on that post in the thread.

CW's aren't a punishment, on vis.social and many other instances, we use them as 'labels' and 'headlines', to help our community better organize what they read.

Also, on Mastodon, you can add a CW to just one post in any position of a thread, including in the middle of one.

A lot of Generative artists, like myself, have struggled with the whole hype taking over the term.

Some folks have suggested "Procedural" and just completely dropping the term "Generative". Which saddens me so much, and it doesn't really speak to me somehow.

Right now, I'm leaning toward "Iterative" for my art. It works for both my code-created pieces and my hand drawn pieces...well, it works in my brain. :)

We've released a new puzzle! The Eclipse Puzzle celebrates the total eclipse we got to witness this year. The double sided, reconfigurable cut allows you to assemble it with multiple solutions: the sun, partially eclipsed, or a total eclipse featuring the moon with the corona around it

So, this was released today. My third stamp with Canada Post. Qarlinngua (The pants). And technically my second stamp with a family member in it, as the tiny figure in it is my son Travis. Now for one with Hilary in it.

I’ve very proud of all of these, beyond the cache. They are about my home, and family. And also my family has a long history with the Post Office, 101 years. My grandfather, father, and brother were all postmasters in Roblin.

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

@NunavutBirder This is a case when I would really love a QuotePost feature, so I could post to folks who sign up for my project to reply with one of these stamps (if the price is the right one for mail to the US)
:)

Hey barkeepers, liebe Tresenwesen!
Is there a good method to cool down liquids without diluting them too much? Thinking of: tea as a base for iced tea drinks. I usually shake them through ice.
I guess preferred would be cold brew but I currently don't have space for a big jug in the fridge :/

kristinHenry,
@kristinHenry@vis.social avatar

@bleeptrack If you have freezer space, you could also make a few tea-cubes. That way you'd have icy tea-cubes to drop in without dilution. Maybe put the new tea in the fridge to cool it down a bit, and then ad the frozen tea-cubes?
