Reminder for Boston residents to download the Boston 311 app to report issues you want fixed in your neighborhood. Pothole reporting usually jumps up in the spring. But, you can also ask the city to address issues such as graffiti, uneven sidewalks, and syringes on the street.
MA Senator Ed Markey celebrating the creation of the Boston Community Solar Cooperative (BCSC) becoming an actual cooperative in Dorchester.
BCSC is a ‘for-profit’ cooperative that aims to generate income for low-income residents (e.g., as a worker member). Their biggest challenge is identifying roofs for solar sites.
@davidpierce I know the @verge is just linking to another article. But, still surprised a large publication like Nikkei Asia (same owner as the Financial Times) made a mistake calling a mirrorless camera an “SLR”.
Guess the public has a hard time shaking off ‘professional camera’ = ‘SLR’.
This is the first necklace I ever designed: the Radiolaria Necklace. We still sell it today! The lasercut silicone rubber necklace has an intricate, geometric structure inspired by radiolaria https://n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/shop/product.php?code=3
@nervous_jessica@nervous_jesse Is that part of Gund Hall? I was lucky to get a tour of the student spaces from a friend who studied there. Loved the interior architecture execution.
@gruber I want to use compact tabs on the iPad. But the horizontal tab width feels more claustrophobic with it enabled, and as you switch from landscape to vertical mode. Whereas the horizontal tab width is more generous with separate tabs; it also stays a fairly consistent width when switching from landscape to vertical.
It’s pretty obvious if you look at the Daring Fireball and Garmin tabs.
@gruber I think a pessimist view of Apple’s Scary Fast event is that its success isn’t as dependent on the iPhone’s camera as people make it seem…but that’s been true with standalone cameras for a while now, for many creative projects.
One of my favorite series was Kai Wong’s Cheap Camera Challenge. Philip Bloom took a better short video with a Barbie camera than I could with a $5K full-frame camera.
@sdw I'm not a Halide user. But, I follow you guys because you're obviously passionate about your work, and work hard to push your business forward.
It's unfortunate when some in the community request a "lifetime" license, but automatically think that means free labor to keep it updated with each OS. @pixelmator got some slack with moving towards subscriptions as well. But, they were willing to offer a lifetime option knowing they will have to deal with this as well.
Deadline for Boston residents to request a mail-in ballot is 5 pm TONIGHT for the preliminary municipal/district/neighborhood election. It took me seconds to request one here:
Our friends at the BBC (@BBCRD) are running a six-month experiment to test whether running own instance (social.bbc) on the fediverse is worth it. Please follow and boost the accounts they’re testing to show your support!
In terms of PhD-ing, this is kind of like the pregame. I passed my comprehensive exams last year & will officially defend my dissertation & finish this Fall. So here goes...
Come on #MBTA, really? Heading to the Cambridge Jazz Festival and I really wanted to take the T. I really did. But when you see that the next train is 20+ minutes away and you know you’re then going to hit slow zones? And your GPS tells you it will take 35 minutes to drive and over an hour on the T? Then the T doesn’t seem like a great choice, and #Boston, we really have to deal with that. #publictransit
@RuthZ I wished the T showed the message “ETA: We don’t know” instead of “20+ min”. It gives the false impression they actually know when it would be better to be honest with people so they could explore other options like a Blue Bike/Lyft/Uber.
@daringfireball Is there another sport where the phrase “once-in-a-generation talent” is actually an understatement to one of their players like Ohtani?
@mekkaokereke I thought the performance was probably better than most elite NBA 3 pt shooters. Turns out it was the best 3 pt All Star performance period.
I know #NBA fans are all excited for Victor Wembanyama, but the surprise breakout of this year is going to be Kenny Lofton Jr.
He's going to continue to over-perform. And added bonus: he does extra well against the super tall super guards: Durant, Chet, Victor, Bol.
Kenny Lofton is not built like a basketball player, so folks have a hard time believing his stats are not just a continuous series of flukes. They are not a series of flukes. He's that good.
In personal news, my incredibly talented producer Nicole Zaremba & I took home 2 regional Emmys for Serving Up Science last night!
I’m so grateful to the entire WKAR family. Our PBS series is only possible because - from camera work to editing, lighting to sound - they are truly an outstanding team. It’s an honor to work with every one of them to share stories about science.
