This Vienna street isn’t “closed” because cars have been removed. It has successfully been “opened” to everything else, to a diverse and invigorated civic life, because cars have been replaced by a multitude of wonderful things.
Looks like another successful #OpenStreets for #boston#dorchester with a whole bunch of both gov and charity causes pitching their ideas alongside music, games, food and plenty of nicks and nacks.
The real success is seeing RBCs (roving bands of children) just enjoying the #carFree street. More of this!
I live on this street. Outside my window I’ve seen a child learning to ride a #bike, seen countless dogs and children going for walks and watch as cyclists of every kind roll by. What a tragedy to lose this small oasis from #cars.
It never ceases to amaze me how unserious this #city is regarding the safety of people outside of cars. This stinks. #nyc#OpenStreets

“Now #OpenStreets have entered their real-estate amenity era, where they are placed on par with parks & subway stops.”
Urban living needs good amenities to work. One of the easiest amenities to create is a place for people that used to be space for cars. https://t.co/r6AsJbdsTT
This article is wild. If I’ve read this correctly businesses have benefited from #OpenStreets so much that competing businesses want them shut down because it’s perceived as an unfair advantage. Maybe we need to expand Open Streets? People enjoy spending time in places where they aren’t bombarded by car horns, noise, pollution and feel safe to bring their kids or dog. #brooklyn
I just went down to #roxbury#openstreets in #boston. Normally I don’t get the chance to walk and bike down Blue Hill Ave (normally in a car and trying to avoid getting hit), but this was brilliant.
Hit up a couple of local restaurants and now I know what’s there, I’m planning to come back - by bike so I can enjoy the street more.
NEW: “What impressed Mr. Toderian most was not just the exclusion of cars but what replaced them. ‘They weren’t lazy about it. They didn’t just throw up barriers and ban cars,’ he said.”
My comments along with Val Plante’s & others in this great article about #Montreal’s inspiring summer street transformations!
Avenue Mont-Royal is like a fairy tale, and this isn't even its summer peak! There's more seating, greenery, and beauty to come as spring goes on. #Montreal#OpenStreets
It's hard to describe the startling QUIET of these open streets. Hundreds of people out, and all you hear are birds singing, the click of a bike mechanism, and the murmur of conversation. Cities aren't loud, cars are loud. #Montreal#OpenStreets
