I don’t know if we’re prepared for how many people do not and will not give a fuck about serious transmissible infectious disease outbreaks and future pandemics. Considering is already over according to every government and no one is seriously grappling with what happened over the past four years, I’m not hopeful on a large scale

@appleinsider The thing wasn't just that the ad insulted artists, it was cruel. All the anthropomorphised objects, from Rabbids and drawing models to emojiballs, were shown trying to escape, having their backs bent in pain and skulls crushed; and Apple thought that we'd be impressed.

I’m an Apple shareholder & have lived in the Apple ecosystem for more than 20 years. I am a big fan of the company.

But this advert for the latest iPad is a travesty, a cloth-eared & heartbreaking metaphor for the way that Silicon Valley & get-rich-quick tech bro culture are homogenising, monetising, & even destroying true human creativity, not liberating it as they love to claim.

Delete it, Tim Cook.

My son emailed me the link and said don't watch this while you're working. I'll add don't watch it while trying to drink anything. As I photograph my electronic book reader using my handheld supercomputer/communication device I can't help wonder what kind of world a sci-fi writer imagined in which there are neural interfaces to spaceships with hyperdrives but adjusting your watch is an unsolved problem.

The worst thing about working on another Laundry novel is that I seem to spend 75% of my working time paging through previous years' books trying to figure out precisely which events happened in what sequence and to whom, and another 50% of my time trying to find obscure minor characters I can re-use in a more advanced role, and finally 10% of my time actually writing.

The artist responsible for the box art here fuelled my imagination though my early teens. Larry Elmore created many of the images in the materials on which we based our fantasy role-playing games. He also created a comic strip for Dragon magazine called Snarf Quest. Have you heard of it?
