Yesterday the power grid in europe nearly failed after a nuclear power plant in France suddenly stopped producing electricity after a failure.

Renewables had to solve it as they can switch on production the fastest - it was a windy day and a lot of wind power plants were regulated down.

But wind power is supposed to be the problem for quite some people.

Hi szene

I want to build a shoe cabinet for the hallway.

It should have a nice pillow to sit on to put on your shoes on one side and have enough space to store around 15 pairs of shoes and a drawer for all the things in the hallway.

The fronts, the sides, the top should be nice massive cherry wood.

The rear, the bottom and maybe some other non-visible constructive wood pieces should be multiplex.

The drawers - they should hinge open - i wanted to make out of multiplex too but the longer i think about it the more i think that it might became maple wood.

This is my second scetch of what i want to build and i want to run it by "you" to see what comments and recommendations you have.

Besides the obvious general "what do you think of the idea" the more concret question goes over "what do you think about the porpotions" and "what finish / oil / surface should i take for cherry wood inside?"

I had a weekend and build a ghetto router table.

The insert and the lift are cheap variants from Aliexpress. This is so far a below 100 eur router table.

I still had 2 1/4 Multiplex plates laying around (also building a cross-cut sledge for the table saw at the moment) and the melanin plated old HDF plate. That might get soon replaced against something thicker and more stable - and so i can also do the routing again in maybe better...

As the fence and the push angle fence (?) are a joke, would not buy them again, would buy the router insert plate only for 22 Euro.

This is a universal ift for a hand-held router and is usually used with the Makita RT0700 and alike. There's several very identical routers but also the competition with a name builds palm router of that size. I had one from Bosch GKF 550.

And well, the Fence is seriously a joke. I'll likely replace that thing with something more useful . Or build a modification on that one. Not sure yet what.

I am looking for an Android tablet that works with and could be used as Navigation + car tablet.

Does anyone here have experience what happens when you as a hacker go into self defense? Did anyone already try to hack their cars to not share that much data - for example by connecting a resistor onto the antenna plug?

I am interested in an electric but under this circumstances won't buy one and stay with the old car as long as possible.

Anyone any experience or knowledge what happens when you cut the data uplink of your car?

It think i have more or less decided on the f4-423 NAS as base for a home server.

Thinking about the setup i'd like to run virtual machines in there wher one of them might be

Does TrueNAS support running as virtual machine? Does it make sense? And yes, it means that TrueNAS would not handle the drives.

Other virtual machines should be a backup server, a home automatisation server and probably a monitoring server.

What's your opinion on that?

Whats your recommendation?

so the mainboard on my backup server died - and given the CPU is an intel i7-4771 on it you can imagen the age.

I want to replace it by a nas that ideally can run linux of my choice.

The main application is to be a backup server.

The secondary use is to be a file server in the apartment.

The third usage is application server so to run things like Grafana or some smaller web applications and home automatisation.

Low power consumption is wanted but not needed to have the lowest possible.

I'd like to have linux on the nas that is configurable via a command line. I am not sure if a NAS specific OS is helpful - or is it?

I had not understood how easy it is nowerdays to update your on your computer.

Driven by the new Samsung 980 PRO SSD in my laptop i tried to understand how to update the firmware of the SSD. The article linked above showed me a nice tool and how to use it.

If you use Linux and have never thought about firmwares on your device its probably worth to read that article.
