The gasoline mayhem is breathtaking but gets fatiguing, unlike its more focused predecessor, Fury Road. Both Alyla Browne and Anya Taylor-Joy are noteworthy Furiosas. Though their presence isn't enough to save this overlong prequel from a spluttering narrative. What saddens me most is that it's focused too much on the action to build on the feminist fury alive in its sequel.

Luca Guadagnino was assigned: love triangle tennis. So he directed from the perspective of the ball, sometimes literally.

The pacing and pay-off in this frantic take on love and sport worked for me. Though its racing score kicked in one too many times. Its climatic match indulged in the teasing too long. And I have a feeling that Zendaya's character was underserved.

If I were to quibble, I'd say this dreamy thriller wobbles when it delights too much in the archetypical Lou Sr. But Stewart and O'Brian embody lovers with enough sustenance to make this romance a worthy companion to 1996's Bound, albeit one with a heavier dose of derangement.

With more intense action, fuller characters, and wilder swings Part Two is far more entertaining than Part One. Yet thematically, it feels like another stopgap before the inevitable sequel. The visit to the Harkonnen planet perked me up, but it wasn't enough to overshadow Denis Villeneuve's muted vision of Dune...

You can imagine the unsettling feeling you'll get from this film by reading a brief description of its premise. It's a slice of life of evil not entirely without purpose, but of interest mostly to the WWII history buffs who are looking for a more distant and measured peek at horror.

This movie pokes fun at how our commercial world sensationalizes the Black experience, but it too is devoid of any real class analysis. It's like this movie doesn't realize that it's appealing to the out-of-touch white upper class it purports to satirize.

'Wonka' may make villains of big business, but at the same time glamorizes the status quo fantasy of a genius entrepreneur who harvests ingredients as a humble traveler. Back in reality his type is completely divorced from the laborers that make his dream possible.
