    @Teri_Kanefield It's why I disagree with those jurisdictions that forbid lawyers from asking whether jurors are willing to speak with them afterwards.

    @Teri_Kanefield Has DOJ crossed a Rubicon here by charging a MOC with fraud/embezzlement for lying in a campaign then collecting the resulting contributions? His case is exceptional, but the principle could be applied to many, many pols.

    I’ve been in a good mood today.

    Today is the first day in over a year that I haven’t used Mastodon.

    No, I’m not saying that Mastodon is “bad” and made me miserable. In fact, Mastodon freed me from Big Social, and for that I’m thankful.

    But it’s also true that Mastodon is kind of limiting. And well, I kind of want to spread my wings and fly.

    Actually, it’s a compliment to Mastodon that I can still talk to Mastodon while using another service that gives me more joy.

    If Mastodon was a walled garden service, I wouldn’t be able to do this.

    @atomicpoet What other service?

    When I die please don't argue with the owners of web sites I post shit on to make them keep my stuff on their servers forever as if that's a reasonable request.

    In fact, the opposite. Please have every trace of me scrubbed from the internet as quickly as possible after my demise, I don't need people 50 years from now looking up my old jokes and judging me by their standards.

    Please block trolls, folks. If we don’t, they just keep haunting decent people’s posts and messing with our momentum to get things done.

    Pushing anti-democratic talking points that could have aired on RT? Telling you voting doesn’t matter, no progress happens, that both parties are the same or barely different? Just block that noise.

    If anyone needs help, happy to oblige. If you can’t tell them from Tucker Carlson, there’s a reason for that.

Even so, a staggering 250 million pounds ($315m) of magicked-up taxpayer money will be spent on this single day even as thousands of nurses, doctors, teachers and other key public workers have been told for months there is no money in the coffers to offer them a meaningful pay rise.”

    @aral I'm convinced the only way to save the monarchy at this point is for everyone else to abdicate to Harry and Meghan, allowing them to recast the monarchy as a low-profile, privilege-renouncing, purely symbolic emblem of a modern, multiracial, culturally egalitarian commonwealth. Absent that? It's dead. By 2050 Sweden will have a stronger monarchy than England.

    Well, this looks like competition for journalism schools from Allbritton. In my experience students are uncomfortable writing in public until they feel they've learned enough. So I'll bet his salaried "students" will be much farther along.

    Elon was able to buy Twitter because it was centralized and one company owned it.

    Bluesky is supposed to prevent that from happening—but Bluesky users want to repeat the same mistake.

    They don’t realize that Elon could buy Bluesky right now and it would all be over.

    All of the posts on Mastodon about how the Blue Sky team was silly for releasing a social media network in 2023 without blocking and moderation, even in private beta, and that the Blue Sky team should have known what would happen...

    ...are being written on Mastodon: a social media platform that in 2023, still doesn't take into account that Black users face a disproportionate amount of very specific types of abuse, and is missing key features that would make the Black population safer. 🙂🙃

    msbellows,
    @msbellows@c.im avatar

    Day 2 of v and I’m here to thread it (given a few breaks because of the time zone difference. Hey, a girl’s gotta blow dry, right?). 1/… 🪡

    This entire thread is just me sharing @KlasfeldReports’s live reporting. Credit goes to him, not me, but thanks 😉 Here we go. Klasfeld:

    E. Jean Carroll's testimony continues with more questions from her attorney, before cross-ex by Trump's legal team.

    I'm covering the proceedings, for @lawcrimenews.

    msbellows,
    @msbellows@c.im avatar

    @hammancheez @GottaLaff I hate this, but he landed some solid blows in 44-47 above. In closing arguments, we're going to hear a lot about how there was no reason for her to go into the dressing room if she weren't planning to have intimate contact. He'll argue that (joking aside) TFG obvs wasn't going to try it on, so the only reason she entered it is that she was open to trying it on herself (ie, angling to get more intimate) +/or hoping to actually have sex there (which high-end stores often are surprisingly willing to turn a blind eye to).

    Again, I'm just noting what I expect him to argue.

    msbellows,
    @msbellows@c.im avatar

    @samhainnight @hammancheez @GottaLaff Agreed, of course, but she has never said it began consensually and that she then withdrew consent. She says she never consented, so if one juror believes she initially did consent and is lying about it now, then that juror could conclude nothing she says is reliable.

    It's a much better argument than the "you're in it for the $!" anyone he's been pushing.

    My reply?

    “Thanks but no thanks.”

    Why?

    Because I don’t need to see the app. I know the people behind it and what they stand for. The app can only ever be a manifestation of (or an initial misdirection from) that.

    Expecting the wolf that took a bite out of you last time to this time act in your interests is how you end up as its dinner.
