In preparation for the July 4th weekend, re-cleared the buffer zone around my house, just in case (high risk of starts). Used a weed-whacker instead of a McLeod to save time this time (with a very, very, very long electric cord).

@ai6yr Former wildland firefighter here. Unfortunately, you may need your McLeod too. You can't just cut the flammable material flush with the ground; you need to scrape your fireline to 100% mineral earth, or else the fire will smolder its way across underground and ignite on the other side.

@TomMarcinko Benjamin Franklin explained to the Framers at the Convention that they needed to include impeachment in the Constitution, because the alternative was assassination.

The GOP, which currently flatly obstructs all impeachments of their teammates no matter how guilty they obviously are, might want to ponder that a little more seriously.

    @Teri_Kanefield Don't forget, even though the public disliked the idea, the Court was very rattled by FDR's court packing plan. The plan itself may not have succeeded, but floating it definitely was successful as a tactic.

    Crazy thought: maybe Congress should pass a law prohibiting employees from requiring workers capable of working from home to commute to offices. Doing so would substantially reduce carbon emissions, save thousands of lives and billions of $ from auto accidents, save taxpayer $ by avoiding the need to perpetually expand roadways, and increase the time workers spend on family, volunteering, and civic engagement, all of which benefit society overall.

    It's a no-brainer: expand broadband and ban unnecessary commuting.

    ADHD gets in the way of many things I do, but the worst is that I absolutely cannot meal prep, not only must I eat a completely different meal, of a different cuisine at each meal, I am also incapable of eating anything I don’t find exciting

    Luckily, one of my special interests from my autism is I know a lot about food and cooking many types of cuisines and how to manage and prep ingredients so that I can cook anything I want with minimal prep and planning

    @skinnylatte We've been enjoying the meal kits from Green Chef. They're interesting, delicious, allow several dietary choices, aren't hard to prepare, occasionally teach us new combinations or cooking tricks, and most of all they're structured in such a way that both my wife and I can actually make a complete dinner without getting completely sidetracked.

    It occurred to me that there were two groups of people that came to Mastodon in November. The first thought Twitter was literally going to shut down and needed virtual methodone for their social media addiction. The second were users dissatisfied with what Twitter had become and jumped at an alternative. I believe it's the second group that have stuck around.

    The thing that saddens me the most about the whole fedi/meta drama is a thing I can't prove, but that I think is likely because I've worked in these kinds of tech companies.

    The notion that Meta is looking to embrace/extend/extinguish the fediverse is laughable. The entire fedi userbase is a rounding error for Meta. They arent looking to take down the fediverse, they're trying to take down TWITTER.

    They want the celebs and journalists back. Take advantage of Twitter's tarnished reputation.

    @flexghost FWIW, it's how I would have ruled. Trials presumptively are public, and it properly requires good reasons to conceal things. And her ruling expressly was without prejudice -- ie, she explained how DOJ's application was insufficient, and is allowing them to refile it with more support.

    There are lots of reasons to be mistrustful of Judge Cannon. This does not appear to be one of them.

    In 100,000 years an alien ship enters our solar system. The earth has no remarkable intelligent life, but it's a beautiful biodiverse planet recovering from some bad extinctions. The aliens don't notice the traces left by humanity right away, this is just a survey trip and not much monumental remains.

    But, they do pick up a signal, coming not from Earth, but from Mars. "How strange?" they think. Mars is obviously the inferior planet for life. Earth is incredible. But they go to investigate. 1/
