Anyone know of some music ? I know of for Gameboy but I'm looking for something a little more advanced/hifi like for or I want to use a retro handheld emulator to make some music so it needs to be a ROM and not a desktop app (i know about furnace and those type of programs)

Life would be easier for many scientists if the general public would get past the stereotype that all science is just about "surprise" and novelty and completely unknown things and that studies don't matter if they match your lived experience 😭 there is massive need to document well known things into the scientific record and establish specific evidence examples for them in ways that will be legible and useful for policy, public action, etc....!

Media really fuels this misconception

plainoldcheese,
@plainoldcheese@masto.ai avatar

@grimalkina do academic journals also have a play in this? I'd assume they'd have less incentive to publish or fund studies that juts confirm existing sentiment.

Q: What's the standard way to do X?
Answer 1 (requires C++17)
Answer 2 (requires C++20)
Answer 3 (requires C++23)

The C++0x delay and its consequences.

@niconiconi the final answer,
Do it the c++11 way because that the way the rest of the team wants to do it and understands...

As anticipated, it looks like we've officially failed the Paris Agreement, and so thereby future generations of all life.

Yes, "we", because we all played a part in that outcome, some vastly more than others of course - the rich countries in particular.

plainoldcheese,
@plainoldcheese@masto.ai avatar

@JulianOliver I'm sure the poor countries are just as much to blame since we all just burn coal without much effort at all to try renewables.

plainoldcheese,
@plainoldcheese@masto.ai avatar

@JulianOliver yeah rich countries have no excuse to not be using renewables and they're definitely partly (largely) to blame for the increased dependence on coal in poorer nations. Here in south Africa though I think the government has just done a really bad job of managing the country we've had more than enough time and resources to shift over but just haven't. And we aren't even being exploited at the same scale as other African countries.

    @SecurityWriter wait until you try Neural Amp Modeler πŸ˜‰

    https://www.neuralampmodeler.com/

    Arguably, digital tones are better right now. Fewer places for noise to accumulate, you don't have to worry about mic placement, and you won't break your back carrying anything.

    I'm just waiting for pedals with that kind of DSP to be affordable, but for now, I'm just using my audio interface and computer.

    plainoldcheese,
    @plainoldcheese@masto.ai avatar

    Idk, NAM didn't give me "clinical" at all. I found it excels at off-cleans. If the original amp that was profiled was noisy that noise is there too.

    The choice of cabinet impulse response has probably the biggest impact on overall frequency response though so it makes sense that it would improve the sound.

    digital still has it's challenges. you have to find a profile that is well recorded and cab models that are good and fit your mix. Theres still that the element of trial and error.

    FreakyFwoof, to reaper

    To my #Reaper friends, I offer you the use of this service if you don't feel like spending hours and hours adding stretch markers to your project just to get something on an even keel.

    1. You send me a file.
    2. I import it into Logic.
    3. I make a midi file which contains the tempo information and you import that alongside the existing audio. This midi file will contain the tempo information you need to get the job done. It's usually quick, simple and convenient. Saves you potentially hours of your life you won't get back.

    @FreakyFwoof can't you just do this directly in reaper. Theres the dynamic split menu which can ad stretch markers and theres a pretty smooth tempo map wokflow

    plainoldcheese,
    @plainoldcheese@masto.ai avatar

    @FreakyFwoof well I've never been frustrated by the process so it's easy enough for me I guess.

    @FreakyFwoof ah OK, sorry about that, I've never had to use a screen reader.

    Ordered myself a on amazon and can't wait. I've had it in my cart for like 6 months. I'm new to pens and this seems really expensive (mostly because amazon shipping to ZA basically doubles the price) especially considering how little writing I actually do (everything's on the computer now) but I thought I'd treat myself for a change.

    Oh holy shit, Softube has made the minimum Mac OS 11, but worse, they're installer will let you install incompatible software on an older system.

    Why are all these companies doing this now? WTF? Maybe they can get some AI that does a version check first?

    plainoldcheese,
    @plainoldcheese@masto.ai avatar

    @billyjoebowers why the heck would they need an AI? They could literally just read the OS and version in one line of code.

    @thor yeah it sucked to find out there's something "wrong" with me, but it has helped me view situations I used to struggle with differently. Some times even that different perspective change makes it easy enough to deal with and sometimesnit takes more work.
