The Deep Space Network is currently communicating with Voyager 1!!!! Really hoping it's more than just repeating ones and zeroes

Now the Deep Space Network is talking to Lunar Node 1, which was part of the IM-1 mission!

IM-1 update: Press conference later today. They're still working on learning about the spacecraft's overall health, attitude, and precise location, but the solar panels are receiving power and the Odysseus has good telemetry.

There will be more information in the hours and days to come, but it’s official: Intuitive Machines successfully landed their spacecraft on the moon

They think this is a comms challenge and are working the issue

Picking up a signal from the high-gain antenna. It’s faint, but it’s there.

soooooo Odysseus's laser range finders aren't working. They are using NASA's LIDAR now (part of why they needed the extra orbit) but that doesn’t sound ideal.

IM-1 landing time is now 6:24 PM ET

Happy moon landing day (hopefully!) Intuitive Machines’ lander is set to attempt the first soft moon landing for a U.S. spacecraft since Apollo 17 in 1972. The attempt will be at 5:30 pm ET, you can watch on NASA TV.

I will be live posting updates!

IM-1 mission update: the lander is now in lunar orbit.

Here's more about what's been happening over the past day or two:

aaaaaaand IM-1 is officially in lunar orbit!! The spacecraft completed a 408-second main engine burn and is in a 92km circular lunar orbit.

landing is scheduled for tomorrow, 5:49 pm ET

IM-1 update: The planned trajectory maneuvers for the Odysseus lander are complete, according to Intuitive Machines. The first two maneuvers were so successful, they didn’t need to execute the third.

If luck is on our side, there will be a moon landing attempt on February 22. If Intuitive Machines succeeds, this will be the first U.S. spacecraft to soft land on the moon since the Apollo missions.

THE MOON IS SHRINKING.

Okay, that's not real news, we've known that for awhile. The real news is that the seismic instability that results from that might affect NASA's moon landings. Here's more:

Ever notice a rainbow or halo around the moon? Lunar halos are actually quite common, and they happen because of cirrus and cirrostratus clouds high up in the atmosphere.
