Hi-Fi Rush was a fun, imaginative, unique game that was critically acclaimed. So of course Microsoft is rewarding the studio behind it by laying them all off. They're apparently not even folding the team into other projects, just letting them all go. 🤬🤬🤬
@tojiro one of the big issues Microsoft has had this generation has been a lack of first party content, so naturally you want to get rid of some of the only teams that have actually shipped anything so far.
@tojiro I love using it for my hobby game stuff. Dunno how you would like it compared to your more code forward stuff. Do you play around with many other engines?
Jack Dorsey referred to Twitter, the privately owned company that blocked links to competing social media platforms like Mastodon, as "freedom technology". What a clown.
He also deleted his account on Bluesky announced he's no longer on Bluesky's board of directors. Jack's involvement was one of the reasons I was never excited about #Bluesky, TBH.
@docpop@John it confounds me how he has been involved in so many significant businesses and every time he says something it just sounds insane. He's been so into himself for years and none of his statements have any logic behind them. He really seems out of touch with reality.
@simonschreibt@grumpygamer i am also unfortunately waiting for the Mac build. The itch version worked flawlessly for me previously. I'm looking forward to playing through the latest version.
@simonschreibt@grumpygamer awesome, thanks for the update. I'll be sure to buy it as well, I've already had a lot of fun with the game. I'm very familiar with the annoyances of gatekeeper.
@grumpygamer@simonschreibt That's interesting, because it did fail for me, I got the "app is damaged and can't be opened" warning, which you can use a terminal command to overturn and it worked fine after that. This has been a common experience for me with game downloads.
Well that was exciting. Had the wheel of my kid's bike tear itself apart while inflating the tire today, shortly after which the tube exploded. Wasn't even up to the recommended PSI yet. 😵
And now I find that most of the places you can buy a wheel from will charge me more for it than I think the whole bike cost originally. Joy.
@tojiro to be fair, when the bike was that cheap, the wheel probably wasn't exactly great to begin with. That's pretty crazy though. I've never seen a wheel do that.
One of the hazards of trying out older games is that if you get hooked on one you've missed out on all the online discussion around it.
I've been enjoying Slay the Spire while recovering from maybe-COVID, but I don't have anyone to tell about the fun "Oops! All Shivs!" build I stumbled into. 🥺
Breaking news! Sometime this summer I am moving to New Zealand to start a new life adventure. Hoping there is a good tutorial. And maybe some achievements.
@jenbanim I don't know much about all the processes for these things, but parking minimums seem to have been added, which sounds totally against the entire concept. Am I reading the amendments correctly?
@notjustbikes It's always hilarious when I get a midroll car ad when watching one of your videos. This was a great addition to the existing videos talking about how stupid highway widening is.
I'm sorry for all this #ValenciaStreet bike lane talk y'all, but it's getting nuts out there. A local gallery owner is saying that the new bike lane was responsible for the deaths of two pedestrians.
The people he is referring to were both killed by reckless drivers a few blocks from his business. One of them was killed months before the bike lane had even been built!
Now that there is an opening for CEO of Unity I'd like to throw my hat in the ring. My main qualification is I won't fuck it up as much as the last guy. Waiting by the phone.
One of the biggest struggle that I have lately with Pixel art is the idea that I add to much texture to my scenarios, that they could be simpler and probably better, I dont know if this is imposter syndrome talking or me comparing to other artists, but I keep tweaking, trying to reach this goal. #pixelart#gamedev
@grumpygamer@simonschreibt i successfully ran it in Firefox on a Mac previously, but yesterday it just got stuck on loading for a while. I've always found heavy web games to be hit or miss in the post flash era. I should try again.
@grumpygamer I've been hoping this literally for decades, unfortunately it sounds like their latest efforts are exclusively for apple silicon, so anyone who hasn't bought a new computer in the last two years will still be out of luck anyway.
@grumpygamer what do you mean by not true? Do you mean the new game compatibility stuff is coming to Intel? The original announcement made it very difficult to find info, but it sounded to me like everything was specifically referencing apple silicon.
@grumpygamer oh, I was thinking that just because it seems like a better chance for windows developers to more easily support Mac. Native Mac game development has never gained traction and proton has showed that emulation is at least better than nothing. Obviously I'd love more native ports.
