It's baffling how often we overlook the importance of negative freedoms, such as freedom from poverty and the fear of illness or a lack of financial security in old age. These are tangible, real-world freedoms that directly impact our quality of life.

Chinese scientists achieve mass production of optical chips. Such chips are particularly useful for supercomputers and data centers.

Researchers found a way to produce the chips using lithium tantalate, a cheaper material than what was previously used.

Today is the anniversary of the US bombing its own citizens in a violent attack of the US establishment against the Black liberation movement - the MOVE Bombing.

What happened: Philadelphia police were trying to arrest o members of the MOVE movement. MOVE was an anti-systemic, community-based, Black liberation group. Police arrived at the MOVE house in : Philadelphia, and ordered those living there to leave. When they refused to exit, police forces - decided to take extreme measures. After shutting off water and electricity and opening fire, the police forces bombed the house from a helicopter.
Outcome: The bomb caused a fire which burned down £ ‘the MOVE house and spread to the whole neighbourhood. 11 were killed in the bombing and fire including 5 children. 60+ houses were destroyed and 250 people were left homeless.

@forrestguid @LALegault @EdCates @clawfulneutral focusing on Trump is completely misguided in my opinion. He didn't just appear out of nowhere, and people like Trump have always been around.

The reason that he's getting popular now is because the system is unravelling, and this makes it easy for opportunists and snake oil salesmen to get in power.

It's also worth noting that situation only got worse over the past three and a half years under Biden. The direction of travel is still the same.
