When you’re an independent author, you are your own marketing team! And my marketing team forgot to post my weekly Late-Idenified : A Starter Workbook post.

I asked my marketing team to make a plan for next week. When no satisfactory plan could be found due to a fortune cookie was consulted. “Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.”

UrsulaKatS,

@BZBrainz
I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 28. Now I'm 46, and they're testing me for autism on top of that.
I hate how clearly the system failed me.

Hyperiontrails,

@UrsulaKatS @BZBrainz @writers @audhd @actuallyautistic it’s clearly wrong for soo long that they defiantly said if you have one you can’t have the other 😡

@UrsulaKatS @BZBrainz @writers @audhd @actuallyautistic ugh I’m sorry. I got PTSD dx at 31 (accurate but incomplete), ADHD at 36, CPTSD at 50 and ASD at 52.

Autism was at the root of my responses to the trauma I experienced at 31

@seanwithwords @UrsulaKatS @writers @audhd @actuallyautistic The root to understanding—it really feels that way to me. I had an informal dx of as a child, by decade two I was dx with cPTSD, and in decade three a formal dx of and ADHD. They are inextricably linked. Despite my committed effort to get help when I was younger, without the complete understanding of my neurotype there was no real help for my PTSD.

UrsulaKatS,

@BZBrainz
"Trauma" has been discussed for a while, but nothing ever really got better. And the situation accordingly won't change, and I'm tired of everything.

@UrsulaKatS @BZBrainz @writers @audhd @actuallyautistic I didn't get diagnosed until I was 60 (8 years ago); autism is more frequently dismissed in women. Never tested for ADHD/ADD/ whatever else it is that is co-morbid with my autism but if symptoms count, got that too. Self-diagnosis is valid unless you need formal accommodation...I hope it doesn't sound trite, but my diagnosis was very empowering and enligtening and I hope yours is as well.

UrsulaKatS,

@servelan
At this point, I'm afraid that the specialist will come to the conclusion that it's not autism, that I'm just crazy and that there is nothing I can do about it. (It doesn't seem likely so far, but that never stopped my brain from clinging to the worst case scenario.) Still another appointment to go.

nd_nb,

I understand your frustration. I haven't been diagnosed with anything. I remember my dad saying that it's bad to be diagnosed. I thought he meant with depression. So yes, I feel very let down.

On the other hand, if I had been diagnosed, my life would have been very different, and I am not sure it'd be for the better. Autism accommodation was unlikely to have done me much good in the 90s, when the stigma was even higher than it is today. There's no way of knowing though.

UrsulaKatS,

@nd_nb
I hear you. I grew up in a very rural area in Central Switzerland. Psychology was a curse word, and people who needed it were psychos. There was never a chance for a diagnosis or treatment.
And my dad would hate this right now, but since he's passed, that's one argument I won't have to have.
@audhd

UrsulaKatS,

@BZBrainz
... And I got the official diagnosis today. I guess that's where the work starts.
