For years, this cartridge was one the rarest pieces of Game Boy hardware out there. It was only last year that the Video Game History Foundation managed to dump the ROM.
Now you can emulate the Glucoboy without any actual blood!
now the next trick is to figure out how to add support to the emulator to make it interface with my actual blood tester. it's got bluetooth, so it should be possible...
Bought a couple of crappy usb #snes controllers from #aliexpress. Replacing a broken and greasy fake usb #saturn controller for an #emulation PC in a restaurant. I can't be the only one wondering what's inside these things, so here is a pic.
DOSBox Staging Basics
Today: Brand new „Getting started“ guide
With the new DOSBox Staging 0.81 RC1 out the door, we also created a brand new „Getting Started“ guide.
If you are new to DOSBox or didn’t tinker with it in a while it makes sense to take a look, we promise!
It describes everything you need to know to get your favorite games running in no time, in the least steps possible!
Also explains advanced configuration like different graphic modes, soundfonts and MT-32 emulation.
@DOSBox_Staging What are the minimum system requirements to run "Beneath a Steel Sky" with DOSBox Staging?
On an eleventh generation i7 with 16 GB of RAM (and an Xe Graphics (TGL GT2) card), I have major sound problems during the opening scene, and before setting the number of CPU cycles as indicated in this tutorial, DOSBox crashes before the opening scene. Playing with the renice command I got some improvements, but it's still not satisfactory.
The hardware requirements aren't the problem here, it runs on much slower machines.
That crash shouldn't happen using cycles=auto (default), report that as a bug if you want.
After using cycles=12000 you can adjust ist using Ctrl+F11 and Ctrl+F12 shortcuts to maybe improve the sound further. For me (Mac mini M2) the game works great using 12000 though.
Drop by our Discord or raise a ticket on GitHub if you have further issues.
A while back we made a little emulation console (no os included), but it was just a re-branded system I produced just for me really... I wanted something faster than the Raspberry Pi 3 and 4.
However, what I really want now is a little system with a TV output (s-video or RGB)... and a vga output. It could probably be achieved with an analog VGA out and an adapter cable... with some timings and such tweaked in the firmware.
I know there's the MiSTer FPGA option, but I'd be happy with software emulation for $200ish. I mean, it wouldn't be as perfect, but maybe close enough and less than half the price. You could just install retroarch or batocera or whatever... turn on run-ahead to kill any latency, and it could be good.
Should I look into something like this when I'm in Taiwan talking to a few companies? Would anyone care? #emulation#misterfpba#retrogames#emulationconsole#raspberrypi
OH, the Sen Pi units are all sold out and I probably won't make anymore... they're collectors items now!
@ward As much as I love the idea of something like this, it's probably not something I'd go out of my way to buy...I may not be the right demographic, though, as I'm content with just emulating everything on a PC or Steam Deck or similar device that I can use for a lot more than emulation....I like my devices to be multipurpose.
Cheap coffee table to not so cheap to build but quite awesome arcade cocktail table. Took ages to finish. Running an old I7 alienware x51 with a 1080TI. PC route so i can run ps2 emulation, modern stuff. Font on the panel for the power button and usb cluster is taken from attack of the mutant camels and the game running is sheep in space. One of my first games from back in the day and one of my all time c64 favourites. Both by @llamasoft_ox
Hey DOS enthusiasts! We are proud to present DOSBox Staging 0.81.0 to you, a rather substantial release containing a large number of exciting new features and improvements!
For the first time in history, DOSBox comes with built-in authentic CRT monitor emulation that just works out-of-the-box without any manual configuration required. The VGA code has been overhauled, shortcuts and simplifications have been removed, and now we’re defaulting to accurate per-scanline emulation and double scanning in all VGA, SVGA, and VESA modes. Integer scaling options have been added, it’s now possible to stretch the image to fullscreen, force any arbitrary aspect ratio, or even emulate the horizontal and vertical stretch controls of CRT monitors in real-time. Screenshots have been made aspect ratio correct by default, and image capturing has become multi-threaded, so it no longer causes audio hiccups and micro-pauses. Video capturing has been made about three times more performant.
Oh, almost forgot: we’ve also added 3dfx Voodoo 1 support for the fans of those late 90s 3D DOS games! 😎 🤘
The #qemu 8.2 release has been tagged. For #Arm#emulation this release brings FEAT_EPAC, FEAT_FPAC, FEAT_FPACCOMBINE, FEAT_HBC, FEAT_HPMN0, FEAT_MOPS, FEAT_PACQARMA3, FEAT_PAuth2 and FEAT_TIDCP1 as well as some new baseline CPU models for cortex-a710 and neoverse-n2. See the changelog for details: https://wiki.qemu.org/ChangeLog/8.2
So in like 10 minutes, my pal Zophar of Zophar’s Domain (@TheRealZophar) has a video going up about the early online video series he worked on in the days of RealPlayer. It was about #Emulation, because of course it was!
I helped script it. I worked on ZD back in the day, 1998 or so. So consider it a professional relationship, continued.
It's World Digital Preservation Day, and I'm lucky to be one of the teachers again for the spring #DigitalPreservation course offered by @DigitCurator. I've always been energized by the subjects we cover, from nuts-and-bolts like checksums and emulation to out-of-the-box ideas like preserving history in DNA or folk stories.
Registration is now open for this online course running 17 Jan to 26 Apr.
