@marczak just a basic battery replacement

This is my son's launch day Deck. It's pretty far out of warranty at this point, figured I'd try self repair for battery before sending it in for paid servicing.

@mikeymikey oh, nice. I have an original Deck…battery is fine, but I also likely haven’t used it as much 😁

My @igalia colleague Manuel A. Fernández Montecelo has just written a nice post about the different Wi-Fi backends in and how you can select one or the other in . Check out!

Is there a alternative? I seem to recall someone mentioning one to me like it was a less expensive no-brainer because it would also run some Windows software.

natejung,
@natejung@mstdn.games avatar

@punkscience_ns There is the ROG Ally, Legion Go, and MSI Claw. None of those are really less expensive than the . The biggest complaint against those alternatives is the fact that they do run Windows. With the Steam Deck running it's own custom built version of Linux, it turns into a better overall gaming experience. You don't have to deal with things like waiting for Asus or Lenovo to update their software to fix stuff after each Windows update.

@natejung @punkscience_ns Tradeoffs though, you do have to wait for Proton to get fixed when it busts some games when it updates too.

@gamingonlinux Oh, neat. Had that a couple of times in Darkest Dungeon 2. Great!

@gamingonlinux Oh! Finally! Is there anything about static on external monitors? I usually have to wake my deck twice (at least) for both the double-input and the static.

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is quite possibly one of the best puzzle games I have played in a long time, and it is nearly perfect on the !

@steamdeckhq making the controls so that it's significantly harder to transcribe my thoughts into the computer? Bump me into forgetting and m steps because I was fighting the interface? Ick, I get enough of that from typing on iOS.

steamdeckhq,
@steamdeckhq@mastodon.world avatar

@rotopenguin I don’t mind the cycling through tabs, I’d understand that, it’s the inability to easily do that which makes it an issue. It’s something simple like making B go out of menus or allowing yourself to spin a lock backwards and forwards.

@gamingonlinux well if paying money for the game isn't enough, I guess I'll just keep it.
