irfan, This is wonderful news but seeing the list of patrons, why does #Valve not join the sponsorship programme though? - I know (or I think at least) that they often/occasionally sponsor #KDE (as an org, or devs) to do some work for them, and I'm not denying that they contribute a lot through funds/code to #FOSS/#Linux, but seeing that the #SteamDeck comes shipped with #KDEPlasma (which I still think is a really smart decision) and since Plasma is a huge part of the Steam Deck (literally half of the software exp), it'd be great to see Valve commit to a recurring sponsorship programme to the KDE folks.
They certainly have the money for it, surely. I hope this will be true someday.

aadeshSpeaking, So happy to announce that I got my #SteamDeck yesterday. Now waiting for official #Bazzite OS to port to OLED model.

woltiv, @gamingonlinux I'm new to linux gaming (been playing Elden Ring pretty seamlessly) - is this release turning the "experimental" branch into the official 9.0 branch? Like, right now is there a difference between 9.0-1 and experimental?
Edit: to put it another way, if I had a game that only works with Experimental, will it work with 9.0-1 now?
gamingonlinux, @woltiv in some ways yes, in other ways no, experimental always has stuff kept back that isn't ready

skulblaka, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been on this list since the release of the steam deck because the 3 people still trying to play that game on the deck haven’t finished loading the world yet
Buddahriffic, Some of those Hades hours were from me. Just have two achievements left but one of them will require skilling up a bit.

Furty, @darth is it something worth trying on the Deck though?
darth, @Furty, if you are asking for my subjective opinion - no, it's not worth it. Maybe check out the Digital Foundry review from yesterday, and I bet you will see enough. Cool shit, though. But unnecessary on a battery-powered device.

irfan, Accidentally recreated the #SteamDeck logo with my dinner. #MakanApaToday
natejung, @irfan here it is flipped so it looks even more like the #SteamDeck logo.
steamdeckhq, Did you know that you can now access your Epic Games library on your #SteamDeck easily and cleanly without needing to go to Desktop Mode? Here is our guide on the Junk-Store Decky Plugin!
irfan, @steamdeckhq this is a really thorough, well written article - thank you sm!
steamdeckhq, @irfan Thank you! I’m glad it was helpful. It’s a nice option to have, even if Epic isn’t the best. Free games are free games!
danielholt, https://www.pcgamesn.com/steam-deck/fallout-4-next-gen-update-broken
I'd argue that the 'Verified' system was already a bit of a mess.
It should mean that the game runs, and runs to a pretty solid level on Deck.
It doesn't mean that at all. It's an absolutely horrible way to work out if your #SteamDeck can play a game and at this point I've stopped using it as a guide. ProtomDB or @steamdeckhq for me.
steamdeckhq, @danielholt thank you for including us as one of the two sources you check for how games actually run on Deck! We feel the same way about the Verified system. It’s a nice concept, but the execution isn’t accurate and their reasoning changes based on the game.
steamdeckhq, @spinning_bird @danielholt I’m not sure exactly, though my big issue with the system is the “Unsupported” label more than anything else. So many games with that badge work so well!
annathepiper, Hey Mastodon gamers! My household has been watching the new Fallout show, and I've had Fallout 3 and New Vegas for a while parked on my Steam Deck... but haven't gotten around to actively playing them. The show is making me want to! And I want to start with 3.
However, given the age of the game, I'm wondering if I should set it up for mods on the Deck similar to my Skyrim. Are there critical bugfix patches I should get as mods right out of the gate? I'm thinking of trying to play as close to vanilla as possible, for my first attempt at playing the game. Recommendations for critical mods welcome!
madscientist16, @annathepiper Here's the mods I'm currently using for my first Fallout 3 playthrough. You can pick the ones you want to use.
- Fallout Anniversary Patcher
- FO3 BSA Decompressor
- FOSE 1.3
- Command Extender
- FO3 Mod Limit Fix
- Unofficial Fallout 3 ESM Patcher
- Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch (OGG)
- lStewieAl's Tweaks
- ActorCause Save Bloat Fix
- Combat Lag Fix
- Vanilla UI Plus
For New Vegas I would probably just follow the Viva New Vegas Guide

jmac, Invited to play some Left 4 Dead with friends last night. Complex nostalgia: I was back in Boston the last time I played it. That was on Xbox 360, and I’m unsurprised to see that it plays great on #SteamDeck today.
It’s as fun as ever, with very minor mechanical nits. The aspects that felt most dated were philosophical.
First, the easiest skill level is called "Easy”, and beyond it being Rather Hard Actually, a modern game would pick a less dismissive description for it. 🧵#videogames
mogwai_poet, @jmac My sense of it is that games didn't change and the culture didn't change -- you did. The vast majority of video games are still built around violence as the default (or only) form of interaction. We had our moment (e.g. Spec Ops The Line) where we floated the idea that violence isn't something to celebrate and in my experience players are sick of the conversation now.
jmac, @mogwai_poet This feels apt to me.
steamdeckhq, Proton 9.0 Beta got a new update today, bringing in newly playable games onto the #SteamDeck, as well as some nice regression fixes for others.

ronny, @steamdeckhq can you try to fix cookies stuff (most probably) on mobile? I cant scroll and I cant see any window about cookies :/
steamdeckhq, @ronny I’ll see what I can do! It definitely shouldn’t be like that, I apologize.
natejung, Last week I started #FalloutNewVegas and I was thinking I’d put it down with the Next Gen update coming out for #Fallout4, but it appears the update is actually kind of underwhelming on PC. I have never played New Vegas and had only ever played 4 for a few hours. I installed some of Viva New Vegas mods (mostly for Bug Fixes and some Quality of Life features) on my PC and #SteamDeck and I am enjoying it quite a bit.
natejung, @WanderingInDigitalWorlds I haven’t actually tried it myself, so I am not sure. I was personally looking forward to the Steam Deck verification, but that appears to have been a joke. They removed the launcher to get it verified, but now you have to do a bunch of extra steps to change graphic settings. Apparently it still runs at half the locked frame rate of the Steam Deck OLED and crashes when closing the keyboard. So the “verified” update made things worse, not better.
WanderingInDigitalWorlds, @natejung Interesting, that's horrible for Steam Deck users! Typical Bethesda, failing and winning at the same time! Why couldn't they have just done right by Steam Deck users? That company has enough money to afford a Steam Deck and someone to rigorously test it before launching a "verified" version. Tomfoolery by Todd Howard, sad but unsurprising.
thegamerstavern, Ok, moving on to slightly lighter topics, today is also #Fallout4 Next-Gen patch day!
And if I recall correctly, the game should get verified for #SteamDeck - this whole verification thing is always a puzzle to me, it could mean everything.
Time to get into the game!
thegamerstavern, @Sobtanian @greenvahn I do believe it's the right time, between the tv show and the steam deck compatibility update :)
greenvahn, @thegamerstavern @Sobtanian I'm bit hyped for this update. Let's hope for the best but for sure will break some of the existing mods out there. I never played Fallout 4 so not big deal for me

makendo, @gamingonlinux I've heard that XeSS don't work on Linux because of driver differences...
gamingonlinux, @makendo you heard wrong, it has always worked
gerowen, I don't think it comes thru in this compressed, tone mapped JPG screenshot, but #HorizonZeroDawn with HDR enabled on a #SteamDeck OLED looks and runs way better than it has any right to on a handheld device. This has got to be one of if not the best looking game I've played on the Deck yet. With the "original" graphics preset (PS4 equivalent?) and HDR enabled on a 90hz OLED display it's holding 50+ fps, looking and feeling great. Really looking forward to this, 🙂
gerowen, @marczak I'm gonna try to put my money back to build myself a more up to date gaming desktop for the living room and put ChimeraOS on it. We have a desktop in there at the moment, and although it is more powerful than the Steam Deck, the Deck nips at its heels in a lot of scenarios while drawing a fraction of the power to do it. If the Deck can't handle Forbidden West properly I'll probably just play it on the living room TV.
marczak, @gerowen The graphics definitely got a bump in the sequel. The deck is great! It might run it, but not sure it would truly do it justice. The dev team really did their job.
