Guess there is some learning to do 🙃

tuneintodetuned,

@Targy_

@Targy_

The recent rework of habitats in makes them much more…well, playable, and also dynamic and interesting. If you play with a Void Dwellers origin, you really do have to play tall to make it work: claim a small patch of territory, find sites for research, mining, and energy habitats, and then start building them while dedicating your starting habitat to manufacturing/metallurgy.

I might try playing a custom empire based on The Culture again.

@MisuseCase

I haven't played Stellaris for years but this sounds really interesting. To me habitats were always a late-game thing, something that came along when I was over the hump already. If they're now viable earlier then that would change the game in really interesting ways.

CatDad,
@CatDad@mas.to avatar

I love but it takes way too long to finish a game, even just a small galaxy.

For my last playthrough the last ~75 years just seemed super boring. I only had internal goals (megastrutures, retooling my robot population) and most of the galaxy was vassalized and peaceful. The crisis spiced things up but it was just a lot of waiting for time to pass.

CatDad,
@CatDad@mas.to avatar

@jippi Yeah I haven't dipped my toe into mods yet, just playing vanilla with more DLCs. I hadn't played in a few years so I'm relearning all the changed mechanics too.

jippi,
@jippi@expressional.social avatar

@CatDad oh yeah, classic stellaris that everything changes every 12 months or so 😂keep it fresh but also almost impossible to truly master and just pick up for a couple of hours once in a while lol.

I still remember the 1.0 days and it’s wild to see how much have changed since then, it really is 3-4 full games they have released since the beginning

No więc jeśli kogoś interesuje, to faktycznie nowy dodatek do Stellaris jest smutnym żartem.

@milosz Astral Planes - trochę ponad 2 tygodnie temu premiera. :)

Haven't played for ages. This might make it worth a revisit.

Now I just have to ask my boss for 12 months of Stellaris leave.

Wanna know if Star Trek Infinite is Star Trek or really just reskinned ?

Check out this 3h30m bit of gameplay as the Klingon Empire and form your own opinion!

@dragonridingcat

Great question. Honestly, it's almost a carbon copy of Stellaris. I have found only the tiniest differences in the actual gameplay.

It feels more static and formulaic with and thus guided with the missions you have. These guide you clearer on what's expected of you with your chosen race/group.

Otherwise it's really almost entirely the same, beyond adding EU4 and HOI4 elements to the mix with scripted events and the missions tree.

Imperor,
@Imperor@mastodon.social avatar

@dragonridingcat

I should point out that there are some mechanics that work differently, but sort of come down to the same thing. Governors are now on ships, rather than planets and you move them around and the same goes for spies, for example.

KzintiCV,
@KzintiCV@silversword.online avatar

Been playing more on my and I've decided that I definitely like the direction of the game. Balance patches come out quickly, you can see and discuss them on the forums. They've been good for the game.

For one thing, setting planets to be auto-managed actually works now. You don't have to manually feed minerals to the planet for it to develop, it'll just take from the stockpile as long as you won't go into a deficit from it. Actually amazing.

KzintiCV,
@KzintiCV@silversword.online avatar

@darth New Horizons or Infinite? New Horizons is a fantastic mod for Stellaris that covers all of Star Trek (even the parts I’m not personally a fan of, but I’ll live). It’s well worth checking out if you’re a huge ST nerd but the performance suffers from how much they put in.

Infinite is a new official game being built on the Stellaris engine that was announced last year, and is coming out this month. It focuses on the TNG-DS9 era and looks great from the dev-logs.

KzintiCV,
@KzintiCV@silversword.online avatar

@darth I’m not sure why it’s being talked about recently in particular, but it’s been out for a long time now. It keeps up to date with patches and dlc for the base game, but I think you can play it with just the base game.

I am feeling a bit lost in though. I am having fun clicking on things but I don't actually think I know what I am doing or what it is leading to.

Imperor,
@Imperor@mastodon.social avatar

@JTZinn Don't despair!

Paradox games have that feeling in the beginning. Let the AI take over most of the micromanagement things like sectors and ship designs.

You concentrate on expanding those borders with outposts, colonizing planets and fielding an Armada capable of protecting what is yours! (Slightly over the Fleet-Limit is no problem).

Might take a few losses and tries, but it'll click for sure.

JTZinn,

@Imperor That sounds like pretty much what I am doing so good to know I am on the right track. Thanks for the tips!

This moment in stellaris, when you're going to eliminate a player from the map ..... but should have been dealing first with the fallen empire which already attacked you ........ and the truce just ran out...

@hackbyte I should give it a try again.
At my first "Stellaris immersion season", I got pretty much the feeling that everything just got stuck and did not advance. I used cheats then to see further tech..

Playing as an isolationist empire doing Inward Perfection, I somehow managed to become Galactic Custodian and leader of the League of Non-Aligned Powers in the War in Heaven anyway. This was all possible because I got the OP diplomatic Paragon leader towards the late mid game.

(You either know what this is or you don’t.)

@MisuseCase @maxmm77 I have never played these games but this makes it sound like a @deuceofgears plot

MisuseCase,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@trochee @maxmm77 @deuceofgears It’s a BABYLON 5 plot. The whole 4th season is basically that. Since is a grand strategy space opera trope blender that is very up-front about its influences it’s not even subtle. If you take the option to form the League of Non-Aligned Powers and take on both Fallen Empires, the flavor text on the confirmation button is a direct quote from BABYLON 5.

@nukehavoc

Would you build the Culture as the machine empire that collects aliens as pampered pokemons? Or would you go for a egalitarian + xenophile meat peuple based Culture?

Either way, you'd probably have to take either void dwellers or the ring world origin, and definitely pick galactic wonders.

We bought the new robots DLC and just got to the new endgame crisis. It's very exciting! Enjoying the mystery of what's going on.
Also it's very pretty

Everything with the new machine age dlc is absolutely wonderful. The game feels much more balanced, combat more immersive and the whole machine systems have been completely reworked with incredible depth and role playing. Definitely one of my favorite for the game.
