What do you think about the new Tutanota app logo?

@fatboy neat in the animation, unrecognizable otherwise

@fatboy It's bad, just as their decision to support multi-level marketing pyramid schemes: https://tuta.com/support/#cryptocurrency

weirdwriter,

This is the kind of updates I dream about! Also, yes, I view all my emails in plain text and never going back! https://gabrielsieben.tech/2024/05/17/thinking-out-loud-2nd-gen-email/ #Email

@weirdwriter Making the HTML in email lighter would be nice.

Currently it’s an unspecified subset of HTML.

But HTML5 is huge. Though that’s very much non-intuitive for anyone who doesn’t work with it.

ArneBab,
@ArneBab@rollenspiel.social avatar

@weirdwriter the lightest option would be embedding servo — that can work with most of HTML5.

It has 177 MiB of sources, about 15% of Chromium, but still 177 times my current email client.

My email client: https://www.djcbsoftware.nl/code/mu/
Servo: https://servo.org/

Recommendations for good (and preferably cheapish) own-domain providers, anyone? As far as I know the consensus is still that running your own is prohibitively difficult for reputation reasons, but do correct me if I'm wrong.

@curtispf I cannot fault Fastmail - I ran my own server for almost 20 years and had to finally give in. :( they’ve been great.

Anybody have recommendations for providers? I've been using @mailbox_org since 2019 but the service is going downhill. They are outright blocking mail from a number of legit senders, support now takes days to respond and when it does it's not particularly helpful).

I last reviewed mail providers in 2019 here https://changelog.complete.org/archives/9952-review-of-secure-privacy-respecting-email-services .

My criteria -- it must: let me bring my own domain, by privacy-respecting, have reasonable support, not require clients other than IMAP/SMTP.

@jgoerzen @mailbox_org : mailbox is my backup provider. Quite sad to hear that they are worsening 😞

Ever since I quit Google I've stopped receiving junk emails, used to come about 10 a day and would end up in promotions folder, or updates, or socials, which google created. Now, I get nothing. Only newsletters, some of which are industry related so I don't mind them.

I'm looking for a privacy-focused provider with IMAP support. Preferably email-only provider (without calendar or cloud storage integration). No weird spam filtering system, zero-access encryption for data at rest, OpenPGP for encryption, 2FA, custom domain support, no personal info required for signup and accepts payment with cryptocurrency. Plus, it should perform well on the assessment at https://internet.nl/test-mail.

rodrifdez,
@rodrifdez@asturias.red avatar

It would help a little to use signatures, but this alone irritates many because they "can't read" the attached file. Why do they call themselves -conscious professionals and users? Implementing something like this in a company is really not too much effort. In my opinion, this alone would increase the sender's confidence considerably.

I just had an impressively pleasant customer service experience with @fastmail. Turns out it wasn't even their issue, but they responded quickly and in exactly the level of detail I needed.

It's so sad that it's so uncommon that it's worth tooting about...

Crell,
@Crell@phpc.social avatar

@Romm @fastmail I've been with them for a decade and a half. Not no complaints, but very few.

michael,
@michael@thms.uk avatar

@Crell been with @fastmail for a number of years myself now.

Must admit my support experience with them is decidedly mixed. I’ve only had reason to contact their support twice. The first time they took forever to respond, and the response was completely useless. The second time was much better.

At least they do have support though, and to be fair their product itself is great and very good value for money, imo!
