Something I've noticed about restaurants in this cost of living crisis... if it's an existing restaurant, it'll put up prices but feel the need to have some continuity with their previous prices.

If it's a new restaurant replacing an old one, they just jump straight to high prices, the $35 bowls of pasta etc. And I never pass through their doors.

@timrichards Yeah, a local cafe recently closed. New joint opened up in the same space, selling similar food, but with a ~30% markup. Coffee is still standard price and very good, so they get my coffee business but I aint eating there...

@vandenberglegs Yep I've gone that direction with a lot of cafes - coffee, no food. I'm not paying $20 for a sandwich!

@timrichards Yep. With all the shit going on in the world today, I feel guilty spending more than $20 on a restaurant meal. $25 per cover tops. No alcohol. So it's Vietnamese mostly for us these days. Bonus. Also, I've stopped eating fish in restaurants entirely. Things have changed. I don't know how the "fine dining" restaurants are continuing to stay in business. There must be more wealthy people with ample discretionary spending capability out there than I thought.

@milennialzero Yes it's strange. Even cafes have become relatively expensive. My rule of thumb for eating out now is no main over $25. Those pubs charging $32 for a chicken parma are dreamin'.
